I have a V30 2x12 closed back cab. Want to mix one v30 with somethin else that would give more warmth and sweetness for singing lead tone for low to medium volume application while keeping the v30 punch and cut for high gain rythm. I play 80's rock/metal and 70's rock(deep purple,Hendrix)..some lead stuff like Satriani,Malmsteem,Slash,Eric Johnson. Maybe a Greenback? or g12h?

I am doing the same thing to my 2x12 V30 cab and am going to try and CL-80. They are very smooth.

My new Avatar 2x12 cabinets were delivered today. I don't have them ready to fire-up yet, so I can't somment on the tone, but they each contain a Classic Lead 80 and a Vintage 30...

It looks like a good match! Tell me how it turns out when its done.

I'm doing the same with my 212 rectifier cab. Going to try a Warehouse ET-65. (higher wattage greenback)

Btw they look awsome in orange!

I'm going to be the weirdo here and recommend what I always recommend when the application seemingly fits:

These are worth their pricetag. They're unique, beautifully voiced, have amazing tone, and a lot of OOOMPH when pushed. I love 'em!!

I tough they were more Vintage blues/rock oriented...will they handle the high gain chug? You think a gold will mix well with a v30 without fighting each others frenquency?

Danny Spitz of Anthrax ain't vintage blues...

Some facts - they're both rated at 100dB sensitivity meaning same wattage in results in same SPL/loudness out. V30 runs at 70Hz-5000Hz, Gold runs at 75Hz-5000Hz - so we'd simply be layering tones, not frequencies - kinda cool. Their respective "peaks" are at slightly different intervals on the sonic spectrum - personally?? They might mesh better than you think.

Just sayin'....

I tried that and the ET65 was literally non-existant do to the 4db sensitivity difference. If you want that vibe, then try an Emi. Private Jack IMO. I love that mix.

I hate the CL80 in all applications. It's such an "artificial" sounding speaker to my ears. Really bright and hi-fi sounding.

I would suggest the G12H first. Can't go wrong there.

From the music you listed I will also say the WGS ET65, then I saw the word "chug", maybe clarify that.

Thank you, sir. It was never a question - I was going with orange tolex and a wheat grill. I still have my eye on a Reeves Super '78 (in orange, of course) and it would look great on the stacked 2x12's...

I have an 80 watt with a v30 in both 2x12's I own and they complement each other very nicley. The 80 rounds out the tone a little IMO.
