that this Chris Canella guy is a complete douche. Totally shits on this guys "free promotion" of his product. Unbelievable:

He is a fool, he can't play the guitar, he looks like the late El Duce from the Mentors and he brings absolutely nothing to the party. Is Ed so far removed from the business part that he doesn't see this??

Is what most playing at NAMM sounds like? 8 seconds of bubbley sounding muted as fast as possible runs followed by a dive bomb?

if only a wah pedal was handy. the dive-wah is the ultimate in wankery.....

Yeah, but the Fender rep was kind of the Douche in the video though. His tone was pretty condescending and it's pretty damn obvious those guitars in any lifetime would be considered signature in that, who else ever used a guitar that looked like that? No-one.

I just re-read the OP. Is Chris Canella the Fender/EVH rep in question?

This guy in the video is not Chris Carnella. He's the guy who is a spokesperson for EVH who looks like Kerry King from Slayer.
But I totally agree, Carnella is a fuckin' douche and has got to go.

Being that the guitars in question are pretty much "EVH sigs" I get why the dude in the video says what he says.

Being also that EVH is a brand, it probably gets pretty dang old to hear everyone call EVERY EVH product Eddie's "signature" model this or that...And maybe, just maybe, that outburst just caught him after a days worth of frustration with it.

So I see both sides.

Other than that, Cannella kinda comes off as a douche, yeah, but thel ast few seconds of the vid where the dude is "playing" kinda makes me forget Cannella's lameness.

Chris Canella, the Fender/EVH rep is the guy interjecting the stupid comments while the other guy is doing the demo. He's off camera and a douche :D

None of us know what was said prior to the video, and after. Technically...Canella was correct. However, those striped guitars are linked to Van Halen for enternity.

Canella is a really cool guy and answers any and all questions, with most of them pertaining to EVH and not the products. I can understand where the frustration comes in. You had to be there at the show to understand. It gets ridiculous...especially when it comes to EVH. Have you seen the posts on his old guitar sound and how to get it? Ridiculous...

What a fucking asshole!!!!!!!!!! This is why I love companies like Jet City.... their customer service is amazing. When you talk to them they talk to you like you've been friends for years. The guy in this video demonstrated some of the worst customer service I've ever seen... making fans of your product/customers/potential customers feel like shit by talking to them like that is bullshit. His fat ass should be fired. I get it, EVH is not a signature series.... but WTF does EVH stand for again!?!?! Of yeah EDDIE VAN HALEN!!

Seriously from now on, every time I see one of these EVH stripped guitars, I'm going to think of this douche bag.

Yeah....based on just that snippet, dude sounds like a really fun guy....exactly the kind of dude I'd want working my booth. :D

Pretty dickish response for sure, but as far as this question, my guess would be yes. I doubt he would even take issue with what happened. I guess Eddie does try to get a decent product out there, but I suspect it really comes down to "how many things can I get on the market with my name on it and when do I need to revamp the old one to sell new ones?" Otherwise, it's up to the business guys. He doesn't have to sell anything...his name does the work.

He does seem to fancy the guitars, though. The Ernie Ball and Wolfgang guitars seem top notch guitars.

Yeah, I thought the guy doing the video took that well. It's possible he may have played something more on the guitar if the rep didn't just go all asshole on him. I guess the guy running the booth may have been burned out by the point this was recorded.

But if I know someone's recording something and how a clip of NAMM may likely show up on Youtube, even if I'm tired I'm probably going to be more careful with how I say something even if I thought it was important to correct someone on something like that while in the midst of it being recorded. The better suggestion would've been to just shut up since the majority of guitarists who see such guitars and EVH letters on the headstock are going to assume it's all signature gear even if they are less expensive models.

As a marketing guy myself, I understand what the guy was trying to say. Unfortunately for marketing guys, the only people who truly give a shit about branding are other marketing guys

The key is to establish a brand strategically through a created perception, not by dictating it. In the case of EVH stripes, it's far too late for any brand manager to create a perception other than it being Ed's signature gear. Save your brand speak for the Wolfgang guitars and 5150 amps and let the stripes continue to be what they've always been in the eye of the consumer.
