Winged C's out of production?

Wow that blows, now SED el34s are gonna be $100 a tube ,good thing i just bought a set :)

Maybe I'm mistaken but I don't think Svetlana has been making them for a few years now. When I bought my last pair, the vendors were making a big deal out of making sure you were buying the real deal (Svets) made in Petersburg and not the new ones?

Maybe someone like Laura cab shed some light on this. I've been known to get mixed up before>

Well I have pair loaded up in a RM100 along with some 6CA7's. Glad I bought a quad and have two spares prior to the price hike. Looks like I will be switching to the Ruby 34's after I burn through these.

Yeah, I was trying to get Winged C KT88's a few weeks back. Got told by derek at watford valves in the UK that they were out of production now. Wasn't aware the factory was closing though. Jorg at Bogner didn't seem to know that either. I am screwed for my EL34 bogner then as apparently they are the only manufacturer that can be put in EL34 Shiva's!

Rumors ...BS. Talked to a dude from thetubestore last week =C= is fine and not going anywhere.

Svetlana with the flying =C= logo and SED Winged =C= are not the same tube.

Someone is trying to spike slumping JJ & Chinese tube sales.

Well if you read the whole thread, they said the St. Petersberg plant is not closing they have just shut down production of the consumer grade tubes. I find it hard to believe someone would take the time to concoct all the credible info in that thread.

Neither are in trouble. Both receive enough orders from amp manufacturers as OEM parts to absolutely dwarf Winged C sales.

Exactly and the OP that broke that news has nothing good to say about the other manufacturers. I have emails out to various distributors so we shall see. In the thread the OP said that they are selling off the remaining stock so that could lead distributors to believe production has not halted.

Don't know about how true this is, but about every year for the past 5 years SED supposedly closed down for what that is worth.

Even so, how would that lead to an increase in Chinese tube sales? If anything it would put an increase in demand on =C= to try to get as many as possible before gone. As far as tone goes for el34 current production I think it's hard to beat the eh el34 especially given their price. Definatly sound Better then jj el34.

I stopped buying them when the ridiculous price hike came a couple years ago. For EL34s they are hard to beat but for 6L6s there are many fine alternatives. My favorite 6L6 is the Sovtek 6L6WXT+ and has been for many years. I have actually had better luck with those than any other 6L6. The last couple SED 6L6 quads I have gotten have been prone to rattle quite a bit.

FWIW, I just ordered a matched quad of SED =C= 6550s from thetubestore.com and Jon didn't mention anything about SED/=C= going under or sideways.

So it goes.

Always liked =C= for EL34s and 6550s :dunno:

Vicious rumors like -C= going under lead to all kinds of things. It's mearly conjecture with no basis. :gethim:

I didn't post it to cause problems. There are threads in several forums regarding it. I'm trying to find out just like the next guy. The info given seems credible to me. Relax.

About 6 months ago I saw a thread on another forum stating the demise of SED. The link the poster referenced to, was 2 years old. :scared:

The OP in that thread supposedly visited the factory in St. Petersburg and was told production had stopped. I hope it's not true. Hence the question mark at the end of my thread title. I was hoping that some tube dealers that deal directly with the factory could shed some light on the subject. Brad, feel free to delete this thread as the "experts" have already shot it down as false.
