Winged C's out of production?

I take it they both buy direct from the St. Petersburg plant and have asked if production has stopped?

Well SED did move the factory from their original location about a year and a half ago.

I got an email from Tony at Antique Electronic Supply and he said they told him production has stopped on the KT88's

I stopped buying them when the ridiculous price hike came a couple years ago

Me too. I have plenty of quads of them stashed away, but i don't go out of my way to buy them nowadays due to ridiculous prices. I can get my hands on NOS RFT and Tesla EL34's at the same price or cheaper than brand new Winged C EL34's.

Tung Sol EL34's sound great (especially after a good 40+ hour heater burn-in) and they cost me almost half the price of Winged C's.

Don't worry they are being simulated in an Axe II nearest you as we speak...

My supplier says that production has only stopped on the winged-c KT88.

Thats the same as watford valves in the UK said. I was trying to get them for my 20th shiva but nowhere had them in stock in the UK (at a reasonable cost). I thought that was what bogner said I had to use, turned out it was just the EL34 shivas that have to use winged C.

Well now three dealers have been told its only the KT88's so Im relieved.

That doesn't surprise me. KT88's are not all that common in guitar amps compared to all the other amps that use EL34 and 6L6 variants. The SED KT88's were pretty pricey, but were pretty killer.

The Penta Labs KT88SC are a close second and cost about the same though...

Hey Dan what do you use as a 6l6 alternative to Winged C?
I have a pair in my soldano and sound AMAZING...
But the price is not that amazing...
So looking for alternatives...

Well the Winged C 6L6 do sound great.. But personally I really like the Sovtek 6L6WXT and the 5881WXT even moreso! And they are really cheap to buy too

Oh well. I would never have been able to afford Winged C KT88s anyway.

I second this. I have made several calls and each call resulted in the same info.

Hi Laura, how have you been? We need to catch up on the phone some time soon.

Hope everyone's Friday morning is off to a great start!

Strange that Tube Depot is no longer selling Winged C.

Where did you see that? I see them on their web site. As far as I knew, Tube Depot was the actual distributor in the US for them at least at one time.

They were a few years ago but not anymore.

According to PM Components the factory is not making tubes right now.
