Winger was a damn good band...

I remember Kip from when he was bassist/backing vox for Alice Cooper's band.

I have to admit it was and is hard for me to get past the cheeziness of Winger, but I think Reb is a great player and Rod has been one of my alltime favorite drummers since I first heard him with the Dregs.

Winger was a great band period. I was in LA on vacation in the late 80's when I first heard the band because the album just broke out over there and they were getting heavy air play on KNAC. I went out and bought the album after hearing Madalaine and was blown away after hearing it. I came back to NY and they didn't break out here yet until a month later.

When the shit hit the fan and people jumped on the 80's metal sucks bandwagon there were a lot of kids on guitar.com who ragged on Winger. There was one death metal guy who used to talk a lot of shit about the band so I took him to task and told him if they suck so much, then he should have no problem playin 17. He proceeded to tell me how technical death metal was and hed have no problem playing the tune, so I told him to proove it and post a clip. I was up his ass to post up or shut up for About 2 months. About 3 months later I get a PM asking for me to let up because the tune was harder then he thought and he was having problems playing it.

The moral to my story is that there was more going on musically within the band then many people gave them credit for. Now Im not saying the band was in the same league as Zep or many other classic rock bands who are still played on the radio today but they definitely were a good band

You learning a number for the band Kage?

I guess I should chime in here! 100% in agreement. To be honest, they catch the whole unfair rep for the first album, and you can see why. However like some other bands, they seemed to mature when they dumped Beau Hill. Pull is a sick, sick album.

I also love Kips solo stuff, his arrangements floor me everytime. Killer voice too.
Nope, just going through the collection and listening to stuff that I havent heard in awhile...

One funny thing though is that I never liked anything that Reb did in other bands, at all!!! However, in Winger, he is the absolutle perfect fit, his style just fits the songwriting to a T

great technical players. the lead dude was sick. i have govan's "advanced guitar technique 2" guitar book (which is a challenge to say the least  ) and he is often citing winger's guitarist (rob bech, is that his name?), so that should show you something right there.

however, i just can't get past the ballet moves and cheesy lyrics.
