Wiring up my board...question...

The endless cable debate...I'm tired of reading reviews and searching for answers, so I figured I would start a thread. I want to wire up my board soon. I want good cables, but I don't even know where to begin. Here's a few of my main issues...

1. As for the "solder-less vs. soldered" cables...I'm down to solder them IF they sound better and will last longer, is this the case?

2. Is it better to buy bulk cable (say...Mogami?) and a bunch of connectors (Neutrik?) and solder them rather than buying 2 or 3 seperate kits of cable from a certain company? If so, where can I buy these and what is the best?

Keep in mind...I'll probably end up needing 12-15 cables in the end. And I really don't want to spend a small fortune on patch cables

Thanks
Jordan

I know a lot of people are against them, and my opinion is solely based on my own experience (and not having tried much else)...

I love the George L's. So easy to use, and more importantly, re-use.

I have quite a few lying around my studio, and some cable, so I can always make a custom cable fast. And I like that. A lot.

Agreed. I've never had a problem with them and they sound great. It's nice when you change your board around too because they're a snap to adjust the length.

Awesome...thanks, I've heard a lot of guys say they are unreliable...yet I see them on so many touring musicians boards. I guess that's a prime example of user error

Anyone else have an opinion??

I wouldn't use them for a guitar cable but for a pedalboard they work fine.

I like George L's too. I never had any issues with them.

That's 3 for George L's!

Keep em' coming.

How many do you need? Just buy them and when you do, buy extra cable and connectors. It's cheaper now than later.

George L's fail for two reasons:

1. User Error in assembly
2. Ripping them in and out of pedals often and/or treating them like soldered cables.

If you make them properly, and "set it and forget it" you'll be totally fine.

I'd say buying Mogami Cable in bulk, and the Pancake plug ends in bulk, is far cheaper, but, much more time consuming. I happen to love soldering though, so that's what I do.

I've had George L's on my board for over a year with no problems, went from the planet waves kit and I had a ton of problems with them.....YMMV

i dig george Ls , have them on both my boards, easy to setup and cleans up the pedalboard as well

sound good too

wonder how the lava cables are

George L's sound terrible to me.
to be specific, they add too much brightness to the sound. i guess that could be a good thing for someone else though...
+1 for Mogami

That's funny cause I hear it the opposite way.

I'll probably need about 12 or 13...so that's like 3 kits

That's the reason I'm a little apprehensive about getting one of the kits.

Weird!

Its funny...cause from my research online I found that a whole lotta cats think the George L's are really bright and even harsh to an extent, yet most of you guys and a lot of pros use them...hmm...

Again, another reason not to listen to other people's opinions. Use your own judgment. What works for you doesn't always work for the next guy.
