Wiring up my board...question...

The issue with solderless is you will end up buying a few kits which is $$$$$$. I've used them before and never had issues and its nice being able to cut to length and put them together quickly. However my current pedalboard wire up I am using mogami + gls pancake RA plugs. Plugs are about $1 each and the mogami is like 40cents a foot. Much cheaper if you know how to solder.

What Mogami cable did you end up using and where'd you get it from?

2319 from Redco. Only thing I hate about redco is they charge like $15 for shipping, but I was buying switchcraft 308s too so I had to lol.

Got the GLS plugs from amazon. Was $20 for 20 pancake plugs. Beats $7 a plug

I am pretty anal about my tone and I find the GL's work fine.I have apprx. 60 GL plugs in my live rig and they dont give me any trouble. If you take the time to plan your cable runs, secure everything, and leave room for stress, you never have to mess with them and they wont let you down.
That being said I would still agree with the others that think quality soldered cable and plugs are also a good option.(maybe better for some applications.)I like the GL for ease of use and the time they save.I enjoy soldering and have gotten pretty good at it but it would have definitely cut into my Rockingthefuckout time if I would have had to make every cable in my rig that way.

Its funny...cause from my research online I found that a whole lotta cats think the George L's are really bright and even harsh to an extent, yet most of you guys and a lot of pros use them...hmm...
Again, another reason not to listen to other people's opinions. Use your own judgment. What works for you doesn't always work for the next guy.

Yea...right now I'm torn between the Lava Mini ELC and just soldering my own (which seems to be the cheaper option).

10 pedal board with switchers and such, been together for over 18 months..................some have not explained their uses or boards.

Planet Waves kits solerless and they have been great, no failures or ground loops. Very easy to build and cut to lenght.

Yes you will have spare stuff, I put mine in ziplock bags and froze the spare stuff so it would not spoil..........................

So you're diggin' the PW stuff?
That's an option...I've got a buddy who plays keyboard and has an extra PW Pedalboard kit. He said he just needs to make one cable, and I can have the rest. I might give it a try.

Just my 2 cents, but DON'T get Lava! They are a major pain in the arse. Just my opinion. I have tried George L's and didn't really have any problem in a pedalboard or rack situation, but Lava gave me hell and were a lot of work... only to constantly be having to repair connections and eventually throwing them out completely. Solder is the way to go. If you are going solder less do George L.

Redco.com

Mogami 2319 for pedalboards and (I think from memory) the 2545??? for Guitar cables. A lot of the big rig builders use them, ie Friedman, LA Sound Design etc. Grab yourself some GLS pancakes for angled and some of those $1 switchcraft straight jacks and off you go. I wired up my whole pedal board of 12 pedals and a Musicom Switcher for under $100AU (including shipping to Australia). Then I went and sold it and bought an Axe Fx lol.

If you have the time, ability and patience to build them yourself, it will be much cheaper. Never tried solderless so I can't comment on those. I priced the Lava solderless kit for the same amount of pedals and it would have cost me close to $300AU.

Okay, I've decided that I'm gonna solder my own cables mainly because of the huge price difference between "soldered vs. solderless".

For cables I think I'll get these:
http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?id=506

I can get 30' for about $15.

Then for plugs:
http://www.speakerrepair.com/mm5/mercha ... uarterinch

I can get 40 for $40.

That is 30' of cable and 40 plugs (20 patch cables) for just over $50.
Much better deal than buying a kit of 5 cables for $80!!

I was worried about the soldering, but I've checked into it more and it really looks fairly simple; however, slightly time-consuming.

That is all...

 Good choice!

I started soldering the GLS and these are so much quicker and easier to solder than the switchcraft ones. It only gets easier after the first few.

Good luck with the board, let us know how it turns out when your done.

Okay...will do, still gotta get my PT Pro ordered and a few more pedals bought

Should happen within the next month though...pics to follow

I make all my own cable's. I use Mogami or Canare from Redco, and end's from here http://www.speakerrepair.com

I looked at alot of Rack Systems builds, as well as others. From what I've seen, they do not use George L's, or any other solderless cable/connectors.

i am currently using the planet waves kit with my board. i have done two boards for other buddies with them and they have held up great. the kicker is not always changing everything up like what other people have mentioned. if you set it and forget it the planet waves stuff is just fine.

FWIW, I solder for a living. From 56 channel audio snake fan ends, to standing on top of a 30' lift soldering a 15 pin VGA connector. I'd say I am more than competent at terminating cables. Given the choice, I'd go George L's any day of the week over soldering. Last time I did it, the George L's took me about 15 minutes to terminate with no issues. When I did the same pedalboard with soldered ends, it took me 4 hours, cutting, placing, soldering, etc. That said, for absolute reliability, I'd choose a cable I soldered over anything mass produced, or solder-less. YMMV

$.02

Thanks for the input!
I really don't wanna worry about reliability cause I switch pedals in and out a lot...and since the "soldered" route is gonna end up being a lot more cost effective, I think I'm gonna go that route even though it may take a bit more time.
