Wizard Gate Minder

Everyone loves the ns2. I never have tried the classics. Honestly, i had 3 zuuls. I still have one that just sits there on my pedalboard that i don't use. But honestly, I found the zuul to be perfect with my ss amp. I tried it once with the wizard, and the wizard basically said no. They didn't mix so I haven't gated since.

I don’t know how a gate and amp don’t mix :dunno: ive had my ns2 for probably 20 years, never really had a reason to try anything else.
didn't really work like it worked on other amps. The wizard doesn't have a lot of noise anyway, like eerily less than I have ever heard. but felt like the thing was fighting the gate and other way around. I have used zuul with every other amp and it was fine, but I enjoy the harmonics and sustain better not gating

Got the new revv G8 on the way, I’m sure it’ll be more than fine for now.

I had no idea this was a thing. Problem is, now you have to buy both so that you can compare them.

Haha maybe so! I’ve heard nothing but great things about the revv, some people I trust say it’s the best gate they’ve ever used, even though they don’t use them during tracking at all really period. So we will see! I’m looking forward to sending my ISP packing. If I don’t jive with it, I’ll probably consider the wizard.

I've never had a problem with my ISP, so I've never tried the newer gates. Would be interested if the right opportunity came up. Too bad about the graphic design on this one, though.

edit: I see there are a couple other pedals on their site too. The designs on all three are truly painful.

Never got on with the NS2; shaved a ton of high end IMO. Last tried one 10 yrs ago. Maybe they are improved. But the ISP has been great for my rig.

I bought the Revv G8. Had it for a day and sent it back. Didn’t like it.

I prefer the zuul. But I really never use a gate anyway. Was just hoping the Revv did something amazing but it didn’t.

I've also been curious to try the gate keeper as well as the Deadweald Golem, Atlantic Thelema, and KSR one

I've had pretty much all the others and liked best the Highland Phalanx and also kept the Cockblocker and Gu'ul just for more tight, modern stop start stuff

What didn’t you like if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks for the info!

The release/decay was odd to me. Felt un-natural. Made it less fun to play with it on.

My Zuul does a much better job of being transparent. However, the zuul boosts the highs a little so I really don’t use it.

I was hoping the Revv would be as transparent while not boosting the highs. The Revv actually cut highs a little.

Yeah I concur….sent my Revv back too. It cut off the top end. My Zuul Plus seems to add a tiny pinch of top end, but I can tolerate that vs cutting it. I also like the status led red/green with the Zuul, and it felt smoother with note decay vs the Revv.

Really love this gate! Sounds great to me, and is much more natural than my original ISP decimator. All in all I really am happy with it, and I love the attack and release settings, just fantastic. Here’s a quick clip with just some palm mutes to showcase how tight it can be. No editing on this etc.
