There are similarities in that both can do the tight clear distortion thing, yeah. My Wizards and Marks sound like they were designed by people looking for something similar, yes, but ended up in different places. Basically a Mark is more liquid and saturated, while a Wizard is clearer with more dynamics. Also the Mesa scoop is a generally a specific kind of tight-Q hollow type sound while the mid scoop of a Wizard is more broad, if you choose to scoop the mids.
Wizards have flat out more horsepower in their poweramps though. They tend to have the percussive power of a plexi but with enough clean low end that they hit like trucks. Marks are loud too but again, more compressed, and they can get pretty weedy sounding if you dial their Presence controls too high, which is easy to do because it happens pretty early on the dial.
They’re both great though, and if you’re the kind of player who likes one of them, I think it’s a pretty safe bet you’d probably like the other as well, but for slightly different reasons.
