Wizard Hell Razor clip (in the room)

I had bright 1 at 8 and bight 2 at 7. Depth 8, Presence 7.5, Bass 6, Mid 5, Treble 6, sat and gain just a tad over 6. Rhythm pulled and Gain 1 pulled!
I agree! I actually wished he’d only offer the choice HE think is best for the amp

You can hear a change in the Lead channel when you pull the Rhythm Gain pot? Huh. You're not the only person I've heard say that.

I've gone back and fourth listening for changes when I do that on mine and I can't hear any difference at all. I picked one up early this year and I wonder if Rick made a change to the design or something.
Makes a huge difference. Pulling it activates the bright switch on the rhythm channel which carries through on the lead channel. Much better pick attack. More aggressive too! This is an earlier hell razor. Maybe yours didn’t have a bright cap?

Maybe. It doesn't make a difference in mine at all.

Anybody have a Hell Razor made after January 2025? Does pulling the Rhythm Gain pot make a difference in the way the Lead channel sounds?

On my amp, pulling the Rhythm boost works when on the Rhythm channel, but doesn't do anything on the Lead channel.

My HR was a 2024 I think and I believe pulling the the R. boosts affected the Lead, same as on all the other Wizards I've owned.

Maybe I am saying a sacrilege, but they sound some Mesa Mark 2C+ or III.

There are similarities in that both can do the tight clear distortion thing, yeah. My Wizards and Marks sound like they were designed by people looking for something similar, yes, but ended up in different places. Basically a Mark is more liquid and saturated, while a Wizard is clearer with more dynamics. Also the Mesa scoop is a generally a specific kind of tight-Q hollow type sound while the mid scoop of a Wizard is more broad, if you choose to scoop the mids.

Wizards have flat out more horsepower in their poweramps though. They tend to have the percussive power of a plexi but with enough clean low end that they hit like trucks. Marks are loud too but again, more compressed, and they can get pretty weedy sounding if you dial their Presence controls too high, which is easy to do because it happens pretty early on the dial.

They’re both great though, and if you’re the kind of player who likes one of them, I think it’s a pretty safe bet you’d probably like the other as well, but for slightly different reasons.

This is a great description of the amp. Well said 💯

To @Shredneck and anybody interested, I emailed Rick asking him about my HR and the Rhythm Boost pull function as it relates to the Lead channel.

He confirmed it used to impact the Lead channel on earlier HR's but that it no longer does anything to the Lead channel on the newer ones.

Wow! That's a damn shame. Having rhythm one pulled takes that amp to another level imo.

Without comparing them directly, we can't be sure if anything is lost. Maybe that Rhythm Boost pulled sound is hard wired into the new version's Lead channel by default.

Whatever is going on, the HR is a grail amp for me, my favorite modern high gain amp I've played.

I love both . I actually mix them at times . But a cap blew on my 3 ++ greenie

Man that sounded fantastic. Great job.

I’ve been looking for an MC two at a good price, maybe I should look for one of these!

Funny how we all perceive things because while I definitely notice the effect, its minimal at best. Ever so slight bump in gain, upper mids, and attack to my ear.

We need a shootout of your new amp against a wizard.
Soon I’ll have shout outs with the Larry and he’ll razor and other amps . So I’ll try to do some for ya. But I’d still like to his amps shoot out of course . Btw this tech . I’m locked out of my real account lol
