Recorded a quick riff I've been working on with both the Wizard MCII and the MW Dual Recto. Just a quick comparison for shits n' grins :D

Signal chain: Carvin ST300c (BK Miracle Man)>Ts9>>MXR 10 band in the loop>Amp>Whitebox G12K100 loaded 2x12 together with an EVH 412 loaded with EVH speakers.

This is just a raw recording, so no post editing what so ever. Just a Zoom H2N sitting on top of some empty beer coolers in front of the lower right corner of one of the G12K100s. Nothing technical, processed, edited, or scientific here folks. Montana redneck recording at it's finest :D

Nice playing! They both sound damn close, a little angrier with the MCII than the Recto.

Cool tune. It's got a Rust in Peace vibe. I also like the Recto clip slightly better.

Since the earphones doesn't make justice, is the MCII scooped as Dual Recto?
I used to have a Dual Recto and it was scoped as hell.

Thanks! They are both violent sounding amps. The Wizard's true angry voicing didn't really come through entirely on this recording. It's much more pissed off sounding in person. It sounds like it's on the verge of just blowing up (in a good way); like a space shuttle about to come apart as it re-enters the atmosphere

Great clip, i actually preferred the recto!
The Recto is just so gritty and raw with that low mid guttural grunt.

Thanks man! The Recto is a force to be reckoned without doubt; it's a brutal amp, and it's fun to play. The MCII is equally brutal in person. Devastatingly menacing and tight, articulate, and PUNCHY!

Welcome to the board! There is NOTHING scooped about the MCII. It's got mids at every end of the spectrum and can be dialed in with varying degrees of upper vs, low mids. This MW Recto has a ton of mid grind, but it's definitely mid-low mid dominant and is only scooped once you get the mids knob down under noon. The mids were dimmed on the orange ch for this clip plus there was the mid bump from the Ts9.

Loud enough to make your ears ring if you were sitting in front of the cab. Mine are still ringing

I prefer the Mesa on the recording but i'm almost positive in person I would like the Wizard better. Reminds me of the Fryette amps I played for years, for live use they were perfect but didn't record as well as some others. There is a reason Dual Rectifiers are on so many albums they just record beautifully.

They're both AMAZING amps IMO. You nailed it, the Wizard is definitely a whole other experience in person.
I feel it's similar to the Deliverance 60 I had, but tighter and more articulate.
There are many tweaks that could have been made, but I just had it eq'd to how I usually play it. Bear in mind too that I'm no studio tech, which I'm sure is obvious   Just slapped the recorder in front at the lower left of one of the G12K100s.

Thanks for the clip, Bro! They sound somewhat close, maybe the eq
settings you have dialed in...
I think the Wiz would kill in person, maybe it just didn't translate well
in recording this time,
Good job posting the comparison!
Very cool

Thanks bud! Yeah, I wasn't trying to eq them to be similar really. Just eq'd them both the way I like to play em.

You've had a few Wizards haven't you?
I definitely don't feel the Wizard's full character was captured either.

I thought it sounds great, nice tight playing.

Both sound nice. I've never played a Wizard but I get the impression they're like the Diezel VH4 and Soldano SLO in that the "magic" in-room tone doesn't translate perfectly to tape.

It won’t play for me for some reason. I have an account also?

Thank you sir! More than likely my inexperience with proper recording technique than the amp.

:dunno: I just clicked both links and they worked for me.

-thats some nice playin,
-but-
-in my worthless opinion and a fellow WIZARD owner & fan... you have congested the WIZARD with the TS9 & nuetered him with the EQ.... personally i wouldnt even use the loop when demonstrating a WIZARD...

Thanks man! Your opinion is not worthless, it's just your opinion. I love this amp with the Ts9 and the MXR in the loop. Kinda my "have to have" in the signal chain with every amp to be happy.

From a tone perspective, I don't think it sounds too far off from being in the room with it, but some of the anger in it's voicing is definitely lost in translation. You also can't appreciate the articulation from the clip; everything is revealed with this amp. The recording also doesn't give any sense of the girth and punch, but no recording really does IMHO.
