Well, I call it metal but I'm a rock guy so what do I know. Pretty sure I ripped off A7X, or someone similar - who cares.

Gain was dialled in a bit high for rhy tracks, a little too loose and fuzzy but you get the idea. V30 for rhy, CL80 for lead. Really great amp, super versatile:

Fantastic playing and recording. I agree with you, though, that it's a little loose and fuzzy. Is that just the nature of the amp or something else? I prefer the woodier tone in your other Zep-inspired clip.

This amp can be set beyond tight . It’s all preferences and how you use it

It's pretty tight in the room, I just haven't taken the time to really tweak it for recording. I had the gain, bass and or depth too high I think. but it's in the ballpark. Could maybe do with a TS in front, need to experiment.

Do you use a boost out of interest?
Sometimes . But I knock it hard with a gate . I basically have a hard gate set first then push the amp hard until I had what I want . That might sound strange but it helps to get more out the amp for me . But a ts9 does sound good or a clon as well

As in push it with a clean boost from the gate, or just crank up the gain on the amp?

I tried a few pedals today, it does help for that more snarly sound with tighter lows, not sure I've found the one yet. The Maxon OD820 I think was the best.

Sometimes if not using a boost I’ll just set a boss ns2 as tight as it will go . Then I push the eqs and and gain high until it’s just right above the gates threshold. The gate adds a chunk and tight ness while I’ve push the amp hard to get a cool tone that’s rich yet tight

In my experience, the MTL doesn't play as nice with pedals in front as the MC does--it is a lot pickier. I've had limited success with a couple pedals but usually can get that thing super tight without one by backing off the gain and playing with some knobs. I also will use a clean compressor with my amps and set it so it has a little more output and set the compressor to breathe a bit so it emphasizes the mutes and chugs.

What pedals have you had the limited success with? So far for me it's a Plumes, OD820 and GE7.

An 808, api eq/boost and the cae clean boost. It didn’t seem to like things with a ton of color to my ear.

Leads sound great. Rhythm is good, could use a little more dialing in but you can hear the potential.

Thanks man. Agreed, got to experiment a little more. The clip was the first recording of it with basically no tweaking or post EQ, so plenty of fun to be had for sure

Excellente!

I used several boosts in front of the 16' MTL I had with great success (VFE dragon, Ts9, Maxon OD9 pro, maybe one or two others I can't recall). Like has been stated though, the MCII takes then better...just swallows boosts like they're part of the amp.
