Wizard MTL mk2 and Wizard Hell Razor shootout

So everyone loves your MTL clip better but it is the one with a boost on it.

Yeah, that’s the thing with this one… straight in, the hell razor has it all. BUT once you hit that MTL with a boost it gets to be a close fight.

My goal with all this stuff is to help guys with purchasing this stuff because honestly to me, buying amps this costly is a big deal… when I first got into the boutique amp thing, it was all word of mouth. So with this… I’m just hoping to help a few people out that are interested in some of these amps but not sure if they’re truly for them or which one to get. With this one… Ultimately if guys are trying to decide which one to purchase here I think it comes down to price, and whether you’re a straight in guy or okay running something in front. Also if you want a little more kerrang or more uber/recto esque. Something else I plan on doing too is shooting out some more pricey boutique amps out with amps that cost less, see if it’s really worth it, or not to people.

If you feel like trying it, fire up the HR and push a few of those gain boost knobs in to turn them off, then turn the Bright 1 knob on the back down just a bit, and put the same boost in front of the amp.

Definitely could do that, and it sounds great… but sounds even closer to the MTL the way I have it here. I paid 2k more for the hell razor so to me I’m probably going to run the MTL, and wind up selling the hell razor to a good local friend.

after the in depth comparison, what do you think a good price is for the MTL and HR? based on tones/feel and your experience?

That’s a tough question… guys will get mad at me, but in general I feel amps are overvalued right now… it’s going down a bit, but it’s still overkill. With the tariffs and everything, I wouldn’t buy a Wizard new. Just not worth it to me. I think like 3500-4000 for an MTL (I paid that for mine). 4500 for a hell razor (also paid this for mine) would be about the right price…. But I don’t set the market. I understand with tariffs and everything else right now the hell razor is like 7 grand. Is it truly worth double what most boutique amps are on the market? Kind of up to the buyer. Is the hell razor better than the MTL and uber ultra. Sure. Is it twice the amp, and therefore justify twice the cost? idk about that.

I got a video coming out soon with the uber ultra vs the hell razor… we’ll see what guys say about that one.
