I was on a private forum a long time ago when he was just starting out. He is such a nice guy. It was cool knowing about the Marshallhead pickup and how it came about. My friend owns a 57 Les Paul with a crazy hot PAF... which is what the Marshallhead is designed after. It’s like 9.5k and sounds like it’s 17k. When I played in a band I used the 57 many times at practice and we played only metal. The guitar kept up with ease.

I really dig the Marshallhead. It does sound really good when you throw some gain at and can sound hotter than 9k but it’s not muddy like a 17k pickup. It retains the chime like a PAF and cleans up really well. It’s lives up to the vintage/hot name.

If any of you guys want to replace the pups in your EVH Wolfgangs, Wolfe made a set of Marshallheads for me that are direct drop-ins for the EVH Wolfs. He probably still has the template.

The Consortium.

I liked that place. What a group of characters... Herc/Mike... Scott, Rich, Grynch Mob... and a few others I forgot.

Wolf makes some mean pickups.

Indeed.

I rarely talk to those guys. I use to be really good friends with RICH, but after I got married and had kids, my time to hang out and play guitar became limited. I pissed off Scott by wanting to return a pedal I got from him. I thought it was too noisy... little did I know that was the way it was...

Just got a call from Wolfe...he’s already winding my pickups.

After a recommendation from LP Freak I just got my second set of Marshallhead and Dr. Vintage in. Great pickups.

Thanks again for the heads up on the LP Freak!

 I’m glad they worked out for you.

I just saw in the website that the Marshallhead is not wax potted. Has that not been a problem for anyone? Does it not squeal with gain and volume?

I never had an issue but I’m sure it’s possible

I've had mine in my #1 for a long time. Play pretty loud at home and not far from the amps/cabs. Hasn't been an issue except when I've gotten too close to the attenuator I use.

Would like to try some more of his pickups with this deal but just don't have a guitar to put them in. Everything is pretty set.

Is this wolfetone marshallhead like a better JB ?
It’s nothing like a JB. It’s a hot PAF around 9k. They’re very open sounding

Will it be good for high gain application while maintaining the tone of the amp for an uncompressed experience?

I tending to upgrade my jackson soloist to a set of these but am not sure will it be an all rounder that can also cover 80s metal ?

that's what makes it sound correct

I already got my order in ;)
You've sang the praises before and I've almost bought several times but the lack of potting always made me worry about squeal.

My '13 Standard still has original BB Pros and fancy pull-pot wiring and it actually sounds good as is but I need more push from the bridge. Zebra Marshallhead OTW.

BTW, if anybody wants to know an easy way to connect a pickup without the plug to one of these it is super simple and the 2 connections are right on top for easy access (the pull pots won't work however one of them becomes a kill switch, the other does nothing IIRC). Ground to the bridge ground wire and hot to the connection on switch with white wire. Done. The volume pot is 500k but I can't remember if I measured the tone pot. It's plenty bright tho.
