I wish i had the money, atm, for a USA Peavey like i currently have..with the binding, archtop, or a EBMM...alas.

The Peavey WG SPecials and EVH Japanese made WG's...do they "compare". I've always felt Peavey WG's were far superior to the EVH/Fender line, in their respective price points.

The J made WG's, if you believe what you hear/read, are the cream of the (non-USA) EVH line...

Thoughts?

The MIM Specials compare to a steaming pile of shit. I went through 2 brand new ones, and would never buy another. EVER. Piss-poor quality.

I would stick with an older
USA Peavey, EBMM, or Japan, for used.

I was literally about to post "Ask napalmdeath about the Wolfgang MIM Specials"...lol

Lol.... yea, i almost put in my original post,,,except napalm...i know where he stands lol

j/k dude.

Hey, it is what it is! I'm sure they're fine guitars, (after a qualified luthier does a complete overhaul).

I obviously prefer the Peavey Wolfgang Standards......but the Japanese made EVH specials are good.

The MIJ Wolfgang Special Stealth is one of my favorite guitars I've ever owned....bought it B stock from MF or Sweetwater, can't remember.

SS frets, fantastic neck shape/feel, 1.625" nut width, super solid construction, elite level pickups that can literally do any tone you want (I play metal in drop B and they kill for that, plus CLEANS!!).

Nothing not to love.....maybe I got a great one, but I dunno....everybody I know who's nabbed one fuckin LOVES it. Sold the 1st one I had to a guy on here and as far as I know he still has it...and that was maybe 3-4 years ago.

EDIT: played a USA EVH/Fender recently, the newest one with the killswitch...neck shape is a bit different, nut is wider, board is wider etc...I was expecting to be blown away and while it was a nice guitar, I like the MIJ better....a LOT better.

Owning all incarnations I would say:

USA Peavey Wolfgang, Fender USA Wolfgang, EBMM, Japan Wolfgang, rest is shit....

I have 2 peavey HP Specials now for about 8 years. They are always holding up. Good tone and playability.

....reason i'm asking...should have put this in my OP, anyway

locally, an EVH-J WG has come available. looks in good shape, though i haven't seen it personally yet. $700...seems like an ok deal (?)

and of all the used EVH geetars i see come up locally, rarely (nay ever) do i see a Japanese manuf EVH. see lots, and lots of the MIM, occasionally PV.

been squirreling away my change for another gear purchase. just exercising a little due diligence on which direction to go.

thanks again guys.

I'm not a fan of the stealths personally. I prefer maple fretboards over ebony if the guitar body isn't mahogany. Play the guitar first and if it sounds good and plays good, then grab it!

Here's my wolfgang for shiggles :D

Coming to RT to avoid GAS is like an alcoholic addict going to a liquor store for rehab

I have had a Japanese Wolfgang Standard hardtail for a few years now. It is a killer value when I bought it especially compared to the MIM, and MIC versions. The Japanese ones have stainless steel frets, carbon rods in the neck, compound radius fretboard (no fretting out when bending), Same hardware as the USA versions, and a killer hard case. They dropped all of that when they moved production, but kept the price the same. Personally I found the bridge pickup was a bit too low output for my liking so I put in a Dimarzio crunch lab (I really had to modify the mounting plate to get it in) so far I'm liking it.

At $700 I would say it is a bit overpriced, I would think $600-$650 would be more like it.

Thanks man. That's what I need to hear regarding price.

I'm sure i can/could...and the guitar looks to be in great shape..couple of dings which don't bother me.

my reluctance is...i've had two MIM EVH WG...sent both packing. just couldn't bond with either. maybe an unfair comparison, but my other guitar that i'm playing next to these is my PV WG StdDlx/USA archtop.

maybe the EVH/Jap version is "that" much better than the MIM? :dunno: don't excpect it to be = my PV

could just save a few more $$'s to get a PV instaed...but looking at prices of PV WG's lately...holy shat batman

I'd say go play it bro....you might be really surprised next to your USA, and I can guarantee you'll be surprised compared to the MIM versions...
