Yeah MIJ Fenders are great!
Looks like a floyd II on it...(string thru)
the plastic on the pick guard? Some people are just afraid to play their guitars.
Looks like the guitar is brand new shape.

Nice score.

seller says he bought it from orig owner. Should be virtually unplayed - or played very very little.

Hey Mailman, I noticed the funny schaller floyd - string thru? No ball stripping?

Nope....slip them thru. ;)

They are good but sometimes in a heavy dive.....the balls will 'twist'?
And it will get slightly out of tune. But nothing the fine tuners cant handle.

Nice axe for sure.

Not trying to bum you out, but I don't think that guitar was built in 1987. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I have a 1987 strat. During my research on my strat, 80's Japan built strats either say "Made in" or "Crafted in" Japan at the heel of the neck with the serial number. The G serial # does indicate a 1987 Japan strat, but it should be printed on the heel of the neck not on the headstock. If you take the neck off the guitar the build date should be written in pencil. I may be wrong, but everything about that guitar looks modern, the floyd, the Gotoh tuners (the 80's guitars had fender branded tuners). Maybe a current Japan Fat Strat? If you bought this thinking it was built in 1987, I would contact Fender with pic's and serial#. They're have been very helpful to me, and should have the info on it. Just trying to help.

Thanks JB all info appreciated, which is why I posted it. Thanks again.

For that price and that condition.....you got a good deal.

I don't believe they were using allen head tremolo posts in 87 either.

Regardless, I think its a cool guitar. I think the other guys are onto something with the hardware being more modern or not what you would expect to be on the guitar in 87. Get that plastic off their and play that sucka!

One of deese....

It has a lot in common with a Hot rod reissue I had. 1992. Apparently mine was the "American parts shipped to Japan for assembly for shipping back to the us..... " Lol!!?

Mine had a very similar schaller, same hex post. NO string thru....
Mine had the easy access neck joint...
Crafted in Japan decal at the base of the neck.

I dunno bout the serial #....

I have an 86 Jap squire, serial number is gold E series, like it should be....

Only fult I uncovered in researching this era and floyded strats is post shifting in the "soft" basswood. (Some threads on repairs and such)

Mine was well used, and had no hairline cracks... So ymmv

That things bucking new though! Throw an Aldrich in there and kill small animals! :D

It looks good to me, happy ngd! Only thing I'd be concerned about is the skinny frets, not a fan of the tiny frets on fenders myself but ymmv of course.

Man I was watching that thing... good call, a sexy piece. Let us know how she plays

Thanks CV. Good stufff there. But I'm not sure. I followed those links and its close but some features do not match - input jack is on the pickguard like a regular strat, these contemporaries have it on the side through the wood, no painted headstock, and those model numbers do not match. If you scroll way down on the auction pictures the hangtags show 276950 (for USA) while the contemporaries model numbers are close but dont quite go that high. Maybe thats the secret - find out what a 276950 is supposed to be?

**edit** also this is a 21 fretter - looks like all the contemporaries are 22 fretters.

Could be real hard to figure out honestly. The most documentation I ever found was on my HRR. That hang tag is likely just what country it was destined to be sold in, not manufacture info.
Another similarity is the body route for the Floyd, that's more 90's than 80's. mine had it as well.
Almost like the made your bodies? Then in 93 added the neck access bevel and made my model.
Gotta remember ALL the Floyd strats 85-94 were basically mutts, made in us And combinations of us/Japan because of the factory issues here.....
Look under the guard, the brand pickup, wiring scheme and origin of pots are your next archeological step!
