Worlds largest AI data center being built in Amarillo TX

I'm sure the people there will be happy to do without water and reliable electricity in order to serve their billionaire (trillionaire?) overlords. Right?

18 million sq feet. This will likely fuck the entire state.

Rick Perry is a POS. Dude wanted to take farm land via eminent domain for his trans Texas corridor project many years back. Thankfully it fell through.

I ❤️ Capitalism.

based on the pre-market it looks like another 2-3% off sale on Wall Street today. so tempting to buy again...staying patient for the next real crash ain't easy. I hope it happens before 2028.

Also, AI will require MASSIVE data center builds out. Basically doubling the needed capacity in the next 4 years.

To counter this, we should build more wind turbines and solar panels. sarcasm

Edit: PS, didn't watch the video. Trying to keep my YT video feed to mostly rock and metal guitar stuff. And those fat fucks who eat Taco Bell and shit to get views and more fatter. sarcasm

How does AI benefit the average man? It does nothing for me. The only people that AI benefits are the oligarchs of this country.

I asked AI this question :D

Yes, AI provides significant benefits to humanity by increasing efficiency, driving scientific breakthroughs, and enhancing daily life. It optimizes logistics, improves medical diagnostics, and automates mundane tasks, freeing humans for complex work. While concerns exist, AI acts as a cognitive tool, analyzing massive data to solve complex problems

At the end of the day, me at least, all that matters to me and I think all that matters on this planet is how much money you have. I'm still getting 1/3 of my paycheck stolen. I will be taxed on investments and SS. So IMO AI is fucking USE-LESS < purposely misspelled to emphasize the USELESSNESS of AI.

It promises all these advancements, yet all these advancements will be owned by Big Pharma, Big Food and Big corporations, so they can use AI to their advantage to exploit more cash out of the middle class. Argue all you want, this is the truth.

FUCKING USELESS.

I wrote and deployed my first AI system in the late 1980s ( and expert system; at an insurance company for auto adjudication (processing) of insurance claims); I've worked in AI on and off ever since, until my retirement from a global tech company as a regional CTO. AI, and information technology, has paid for everything I have,

even now I have investments in AI, energy, and compute infrastructure

Cheers!

AI can be used to optimize energy generation and efficiency. I'm sure it's already being done. Texas panhandle should have lots of sun, wind and desert land for solar and wind I'd guess.

I still think there will be a market crash (>30%) and AI will be part of it, if not one of the main triggers. The irrational exuberance is very familiar.

AI isn't going away, but the market isn't aligned with the actual value....many job cuts are being attributed to AI which is much more positive than what is more likely, poor executive decisions leading to poor market performance.

So the robots will kill you last? Lol

So if you're in AI, then AI is good :D

I'm on the outside. As my former life as an Oracle DBA, I almost got into Fusion Analytics as I started getting into BI and Data Warehouse tech. I just got burned out from the stress of it all and when my MSP got bought out and went India, I decided to get back into the MS stuff. Easier and less stress.. Everyone in that Oracle speace was always stressed out and got sick of the 3am phone calls and conference bridges all weekend. I wouldn't get back into that even if it paid 300k a year.

Oracle added AI to their database several years ago, called Oracle Autonomous Database, with versions optimized for OLTP or warehouses, and mixed workloads.

Most database issues are due to hardware failure and lack of redundancy, backup and recovery isn't always well tested. Many database issues are due to human errors, e.g., application developers having too much access to the database without safeguards or DBA reviews. Many IT organizations fail to keep software updated / patched, or have poor sizing and growth estimates, insufficient capacity which can cause failures from resource exhaustion and overload.

Going cheap usually costs companies more...and there's never enough time to get things done and tested, and never time to do it right.

There is a shortage for PC parts due to AI, especially RAM causing inflated prices. I have 64gb of RAM in my current PC. I could make a decent chunk of change off the RAM if I decide to sell them right now.
RAM and SSD prices increased by 200 -> 400% in the last few months.

The companies that make 'em claim that they're booked-out for the next couple o' years.

After saving for my next Mac desktop for 14 years and planning on finally doing the upgrade when the Mac Studios drop in a few months, I'm now faced with the cock-blocking, budget-destroying SSD-price monster. All I have is my old spinners on the cheese grater Mac so the plan all-along has been to buy at least 5 or 6 SSD's - Time Machine, sample libs, project disk, "everything else" and of course backups spring to mind.

When I hear news like this planned monster of a centre, it makes me feel sick-to-the-stomach. My budget is already-shot thanks to the recent price hikes. At the very least I'm gonna have to sacrifice currently-owned as well as planned music gear just in order to be able to afford SSD's, which I (and most others) had assumed for years would continue to drop in price.

Cock block of the century.

I don't know if this is possible in the regular YouTube app or website, but in SmartTube you can suspend your suggestions' being based on recent viewings and then resume the behaviour once you're done watching anomalous stuff.

I'd take a look at your YouTube settings and see if it's possible to pause the "suggestions based on history" functionality.

The other shitty thing is that NVIDIA is cutting production for consumer GPU's and heavily focusing on GPU's for AI.

It's a shit show all around.
