WOT: best wireless router???

I've got a 2 month old Linksys WRT110 "Range Plus" right now and it sucks!!! It's located in my basement and the signal on the next level in the family room is always Poor. Video and audio is choppy all the friggin time. I have a cable connection and it is lightning fast at my main computer, but it really sucks otherwise.

I had a Belkin Pre-N for the last five or so years, lately I would have to re-boot it way too many times. Just installed an Apple Airport Extreme last night and seems to be good so far.

Do they only work with Macs?

get one of these - stick it closest to the floor of where the router is located sending the signal wirelessly - and plug it into the wall.

thats all you need.

if you want to upgrade your router i recommend going wireless N or going home.

brands to recommend - normally D-link or Linksys.

linksys is a division of cysco which is the world leader in network protocols. they are also the best in providing updates for their routers via firmware updates at linksys.com.

they also have a much stouter wireless encryption capability compared to brands like belkin. i dont normally recommend buying a router from a company that makes surge protectors... just my .02.

as far as d-link is concerned - they dont have as great of a firmware updating system but their routers are equal in quality of the linksys and usually a little cheaper.

you dont need the dual band routers unless you are doing massive amounts of sending/receiving data VIA server backups or SICK amounts of online gaming. simple internet use is more than easy for the normal 802.11N net proto.
