Would this annoy you? Or would you still buy it?

If he's too lazy to take a few quick pictures in this day and age than I'm too lazy to buy it!

That's pretty much what OP said. He wouldn't drive 15 miles to go look at it. Hell, I have driven 3 hours round trip for some of the gear... especially if I am getting it for $649 off list.

I own and run 2 businesses. Buying and selling gear is a hobby for me. I can find time on occasion to drive 15 miles one way. I also have a wife and children.

There's a difference... If you can't see it then I can't help you there.

This is an easy one. I would tell him that it's no problem then. I would gladly pay you $50.00 more for it if you take some pics. Once I see the pics and know it's only the one dimple we can arrange to meet.

$50??!!?!?!

The OP doesn't to want to drive 15 miles to go see it. I can see the sellers point of view here also. If I was the seller I would take the pics of course but on the other hand I would be wondering how serious can a buyer be if he is not willing to drive when we are close. I can see why he might act the way he did. Not sure why everyone is slamming him.

You say it's a dealer 15 minutes away?? 3 babies or not, getting off your ass and looking at it in person isn't too much to ask either. Maybe he has 5 babies, a shop full of repairs, or deals with tire-kickers on a regular basis.

I'very listed things, in mint condition, not even a pimple and had people ask for additional pics, this that and the other, then never hear back. I've had people make offers that I've accepted, and never heard back. It works both ways. Kissing peoples' ass that waste your time gets old too. He probably thinks since you won't look at it in person, you're not a serious buyer.

I've had people ask locally TIME AND TIME AGAIN, "where are you located", and if it's more than 10 miles, they whine about lowering the price to cover THEIR GAS. Or, just never hear shit back. The world is full of lazy people, my friend. For $500, 15 minutes is a no-brainer.

Amen. Wife and kids don't seem to matter when he's dropping cash, but 15 minutes is like pulling teeth. Bet he's got 15 minutes to play the damn thing when he gets home, YA THINK??

I would of drove the 15 miles in a heart beat if I wanted it.
My local guitar center is 20 miles away.

If I'm 11 miles away, I don't want pictures, I want to play it and see what I think.

It could be cosmetically perfect and still sound like shit.

Well chit…. I didn't realize that it was only a 15 minute ride from the OP. I would have gone and checked it out.

The voice of reason. This guy may have had his tires kicked in so many times he's not gonna go out of his way for someone who won't just drive 15 miles to come see it in person. I know I've had my tires kicked in plenty here on RT. Especially by these clowns who always need gut shots, then you send them gut shots of a stock amp in immaculate condition looking exactly AS IT SHOULD, only to never hear back from them. That shit gets old.....
Or, the guy could just send the damn picture.... :dunno:

I would imagine the next clown would want $700 off because he opened the box.

I mean, at least for me, sure I've got 15 minutes, in the middle of the night after the kids are asleep. But a lot of folks aren't thrilled to meet up then.

At this discount, probably all you need to know is that it's a factory 2nd still in the box. I wouldn't worry about a pic, to be honest, assuming he's willing to let you open it up there and play it before buying it. If the OP wants it, he should just go get it when he can.

The seller is a dick. But if it was something I really wanted at almost half off, I'd drive 15 miles to see it. And you know you don't change a single diaper. :) J/K man.

I'm reading through this as a buyer AND as a dealer.

I deduced the guitar is still factory sealed in the box by what the seller wrote. The second he unseals that box to see a dimple that the factory tag already told him is there, the next guy is going to want a discount for an open box "USED" guitar.

Also, he is selling this for way off of list price. Way off. Like this is what a used version is going to sell for on eBay. I'd imagine a small dimple, in a factory sealed box guitar is going to be in better condition than a NEW guitar hanging on the wall of a Guitar Center for more than two weeks is or a guitar from some random eBay seller.

Yeah, as a buyer, I normally want pictures. But, as a seller, I have had guys ask me to demo guitars or amps or pedals that are still sealed in the box. I have to open them in order for the customer to try them right? I kid you not, I have had guys ask me to open boxes for them to demo an item and then when they like the item, they have asked me if they can get a "new" one still sealed in the box. I have also had guys try and get a discount on an item I opened just for them since it is a "demo" model or "open box".

And as has been said already, it is a guitar, and it is only 15 miles away. You want this guitar in your hands first before buying, especially when it is that easy. I live near LA and a 15 mile drive is a major pain. With a wife, kids and three businesses, I'm still going to check out this guitar in person.

This guy gave you a price based on a quick and easy sale for him. If you make it otherwise, maybe he should price it otherwise?

My local GC is 15 miles away and the manager is a buddy. He regularly texts me photos of guitars they get in, stuff I ask him to keep an eye out for me.

There babies at home? I'd jump at the chance to take a 15 mile drive and get away.

As far as actual advice, it's your money, so it it doesn't sit right, it doesn't sit right. You certainly have the option of walking away. It's not how I'd act as a seller - would rather waste my time with a tire kicker (not accusing the OP of that) that doesn't end up buying than dealing with someone who comes up with a problem after the sale. At the same time though, I'd happily drive 15 miles to get to check out a guitar in person before buying it. I drive further than that to my gym every day. Especially if it was an exceptional deal. It's obviously not a scam as Reza claimed. Worse thing is you go, see it, and don't buy it - and you still got some time for yourself away from the kids. Don't shoot yourself in the foot just to spite the seller, and miss out on a good deal. If it's that good of a price, someone else will be happy to pay it eventually.

Dick move not to take pics. I would pass on principle alone but that is me. Actually, since you had to ask for pics I would have him pay you your picture asking fee via paypal and once that payment clears you are willing to take the chance on driving to see the guitar. Once he says that is so unreasonable then you can politely remind him how unreasonable it is for him to not take a couple of minutes to get you pics.

When i want buy a guitar, the paint is the last of my worries... I want to play it for check if is a good guitar, straight neck, frets work, neck profile...

UPDATE: The seller/dealer and I went back and forth quite a bit last night. It escalated pretty quickly, but we both came down to earth just as fast.

He explained that his camera was broke and sent me examples of some pics that he took... the focus was just off. I don't know why he couldn't just use his cellphone to take the pics, but I didn't push it. He was reaching out trying to explain the circumstances and I accepted his reasoning.

In the end, he wished me luck on my search and I wished him luck on his sale.

And for those who think that asking for a picture of the dimple/blemish is too much, times have changed. It's not entitlement on my part at all. So many dealers take pics of the actual guitars they will be shipping. He would have needed to open the box anyway as he takes pics of ALL guitars he ships out.

All that time spent going back and forth and posting here, you could have drove over and checked the guitar out in person. Seems counter productive to me.

Chub and Mud are spot on.

A dealer is trying to make money. Why should he jump through hoops just to GIVE a guitar away? As a buyer, ask for all the favors and deals you want...but when you hit the limit with the seller, don't start calling him a dick...
