Had a couple 8 ohm Heritage G12-65’s laying around and an empty 1960A I just refurbished. I popped the two 65’s in diagonally and left two holes open and it sounds phenomenal.

I then got to playing around and hooked up some Weber 65 clones in the other holes…..it didn’t sound near as good. Then moved the Heritage 65’s up top and left bottom holes open……didn’t sound as good. Then put “dummy” speakers (unhooked) in bottom holes…..,,,still didn’t sound as good.

The cab is sitting next to my 1960ax with EVH speakers. When I run them together, there is no loss of volume against the 1960ax. It will be staying this way. Really opens up the g12-65’s and lets them breathe. I always found them a little stuffy and overly middy in closed back cabs.

This reflects my experience as well, but with different speakers. Opens things up, no volume loss, etc. Haven't noticed a difference in which holes are left open yet, but I've only done vertical or diagonal arrangements so far, both of which keeps one speaker on the slant and the other on the flat. I have a Peavey XXX slant 4x12 that'll be converted to this soon, 'cause it's sucked not having a cab running like this.

I haven’t tried vertical yet. Do you like that better than diagonal? Might save me from opening up this cab again.

I haven't noticed a difference. I don't think I spent time comparing though, I just set it up different ways at different times with different speakers.

I should mention that part of the reason I used that configuration is because I ran two half empty cabs on either side of the stage, each in stereo with each guitarist getting one speaker. The top on their side, the bottom on the opposite side of the stage, to help with hearing themselves. I think I went vertical because I thought it might help the port area couple to the stage floor better, but I didn't do any comparative tests. Just got it wired as quick as possible then off to band practice.

I’m sold on the 75s. I used they think they sucked like everyone else, until I unknowingly gigged a vht fat bottom 2x12 with them in it for a couple years. Couldn’t believe it when I eventually opened the cab up and saw those instead of the p50e’s I was told were in it lol

Curiosity got me. I just loaded them vertically (open holes on top and bottom left). I think it actually sounds better than diagonal. Either way, all are an improvement over full quads or dummy speakers.

i never understood the hate for them. ive shied away for periods more to just try and use different gear than the same old, but every time i go back to them im like yeah thats the tone, i dont fight it anymore

I am just so happy that my rig is on point, otherwise this could be a nasty rabbit hole.

I dont. But my rig is so good, i dont feel the need to mess with it. I have fucked things up before trying to improve them.

And this is the first amp I have ever had where i dont feel like it is good one day and not the next. It is badass every time.
