Vertical input model 82- early 84 and I'm not into mods and want 100% stock.

I do not want an RI either - looking for the real deal

6550's would be a plus

Lets do this.

Please email me directly at gilesmarino@hotmail.com

I know this is all subjective but it's not even close to my EARS... The RI's are just waaaay harsh in top end compared to the originals to my ears and lack somthing ballsy over all.

I played a 100% stock 1983 2203 w/ 6550's at my studio the other night and the RI 2203x could never sound as good as that amp IMO.

I seriously shat myself in 4 shades of brown when I slammed that bad boy with a OD-9 and EMG's... I could not stop playing... It was pure heaven man...

I have owned a brand new RI and three of the Zakk Wylde 2203's RI's in the past and I also play them all the time at GC, Scam Cash, MAE, etc and I personally think the RI's do not even come close at all to the smooth sound and ballsey crunchy bark of the originals. But hey thats me...

Maybe the aging components smoothed the originals top end out in combination with the different transformers.

When I boost my reissue, I actually need to set the pedals to add in high end for a more hard rock/metal tone as the amp sounds quite warm on it's own. I do have an original Sylvania black plate 12AX7 in the 1st position which I think helps a little.

A well known amp builder mentioned to me that the RI have Chinese made Transformers that are harsh sounding in his opinion.

The RI's don't use Drakes? I have never looked to see this...

I have an amazing bone stock (right down to the tubes) '81 2204...but she's not for sale. I definitely agree with you Giles...slam these amps with a good boost it's just insane!

6550's  el 34's or it's not a Marshall

I love 6550's... They are my fave tube of all time... The 2203 I played the other night had an old set og GE 6550's and that amp was breath taking... The wanted to sell it but changed his mind and decided to keep it... it needed some work though as the input jacks were hammerd and all the knobs did 360's and the post were scratchy as heck...

Are the dagnalls made in China? I assumed they came with dagnalls but don't know much about them.

That should be easy enough to fix, I think Metro amps sell a replicated version of the original transformers if I'm not mistaken.

I actually expected my resissue to have more high end than it did. In fact I thought maybe the previous owner clipped the bright cap or something, but when I pulled the chassis I couldn't see any obvious signs that it was done. I almost want to buy another one to compare.

This just makes me want to dust off the ol' 2203

I've got a stock '82, EL34's, vertical inputs and toggle switches. Shit, even a stock DS-1 sounds good with it.

toggle switches, it must be a Canadian Marshall

Does the "Classic gain" mode or channel of the DSL 100 come close to a JCM 800? I know alot of peopel like these amps... But I have not actually compared this... I was thinking of gettind a DSL 1000 cheap before hearing that 83' 2203 and maybe doing a tranny upgrade possibly

This probably doesn't help but someone posted a killer modded DSL clip on here last year. If I could remember where it is I would post it. Sounded really good! I owned a DSL for a few days and couldn't bond with it (granted this was 10 years ago). If I had one that sounded like this I would have kept it. Either way, I have a Cali modded JCM800 that I am waiting on right now. Can't wait. Hope you find what you are looking for Giles. With your skill you will rip on that amp!!
