Will be looking at the alternatives.

You'll know instantly when you find the right one. I couldn't tell you how many Ive owned but I have a Custom now that I'll never let go. It's like it was made for me and I knew it right away!!.

I owned John Norums early 70's gold top that Mark Cameron (Norums former tech) said was the best Les Paul he ever heard. That's a double name drop in one sentence And after handling all these Les Pauls and truly wanting to find one of the good ones, I have decided, "Meh".

Owed 4 currently - 83 custom, 76 custom, 78 custom, 72 deluxe ( have own over a dozen in the past 20 yrs ) Wanting a new one. More than half would not stay in tune. Some were fretting out, most sounded dead, not resonant, poor binding workmanship, buzzing, bad intonation, all the various neck carves felt awful. The cheap copies 30-40 years ago I had as a kid were better playing guitars.

I played about that many before I found mine. I played more PRS guitars than that and never found one I liked.

I read somewhere, maybe here, that Gibson is PLEKing guitars to compensate for shitty uneven necks... I suppose the real test of a quality fretboard would be to measure the heights of each fret to ensure consistency. It would totally suck to refret it at some point only to find it totally unplayable with certain frets taller/shorter than others.

I gotta call BS on this one. I was at the Chicago Music Exchange a few weeks ago, played four or five PRS guitars that felt like shit (literally so difficult to play it was pissing me off), and 3 or 4 Music Man guitars, a few older Explorers and ES-335's, but The VERY FIRST spankin' new Gibson LP Goldtop I picked up played better than the other 20 guitars I had picked up that day. It just oozed playability. I'm sure setup had had a lot to do with it, but if it played that well with the plastic still on the pickguard, it can't be that bad.

And WTF is up with these Grand Canyon-deep nut slots on PRS's?

I went to buy a Heritage Cherry '58. Felt "off." Picked up the other '58 Tobacco Burst in the store. That axe has MOJO. Not my favorite finish, but plays like a dream.

my buddy had a custom, custom ordered back in 06 i think...the store he ordered from liked the looks of his spec sheet or some nonsense, so they ordered one too....his came in and it was total shite. the store's order came in and was butter.

they let him pick between the two because his had the "better" look to it.

Best LP I have played is my own Edwards JP 112 model. It's light, toneful, has great action and playability, she just sings.
Looks could be a bit better and the right logo on the head would make a difference to some, but who actually cares on such a great guitar?

There are dogs in every line including Suhr, Anderson, PRS, Jackson, ESP, Gibson and Fender.

I've been playing since the early 80's never cared one bit for LP's and bought one in March/April of this year. I didn't lay my hands on it before buying (eBay) and my other guitars are not being touched hardly since.

If you don't like them that's cool but you are full of it if you went 0-20.

I gotta say that I bought my first Les Paul last year (after despising them for years). Its a CS Silverburst and it is UNBELIEVABLE. Effortless playability and singing tone. I was so blown away buy it I grabbed a LP Custom Classic in March of this year and love that one too. Different tones, different neck carve but equally as badass. Maybe you just had a string of bad luck. I wouldn't count them out as they still make great guitars IMHOP.

Lps' have always been hit and miss. I've owned and played some shockers. Factory setup is not too consitant either, it's not uncommon to have an off the shelf LP in need of serious setup. I'm really happy with my 2000 "Classic". This era and model seem to be the most consistant.

These were all new 2012 models, and the 2 stores are the largest music chain store in Canada. Also their mother company owned the music chain store is the distributor for the entire country. Maybe their lower quality (rejects) that are shipped to Canada ?
I invite anyone to come and visit, and check it out.
Perhaps we have different expectations
And have u played many different era l.p's. ?
