X-Pattern vs. Top/Bottom speakers in a 4x12???

I'm currently running V30's and G12T -75's in my 4x12, which seems to be a great mix. However, I'm still hearing the V30's over the 75's in a way that's somewhat overpowering it. Could be the increased mids vs. relaxed mids, naturally, or just plain sensitivity rating, or both. Question is, would I be better off going with the 75's on top, V30's on the bottom? I've seemed to have gone through a myriad of trial and error pairings with the V30's, when I may actually dislike the damn things!!

Like you say, the V30 is louder (100 db sensitivity vs. 97 db for the G12T75) and our ears hear midrange more effectively, so it makes sense that you're hearing more of the V30.

Could run the cab "stereo." Run the amp to a jack wired just to the T75s. Then run a line out from the amp to a separate power amp to a jack just for the V30s and blend them to taste. Seems like it'd be a lot of trouble, though.

When there's a mismatch in speaker efficiency, I think it sounds best to put the less efficient speakers on top. All my cabs have greenbacks or Scumbacks over v30s and sound great.

-or three 75's & one V-30's-

I do this with three celestion 70th anniversarys and one v-30 in the bottom corner.
Works well.

im running scumback h75 top vs v30 in an orange with better results than when i tried the x pattern...

I have Scumback m75s and k100s in my Mako 412. It sounds killer.

k100s or h100s (if you can dig some up) mix really well on the bottom with t75 or v30s !
Agreed about the 30s, they have a way of sticking out that you always hear them really no matter what they mix with!
Blessing and curse i guess!

Less efficient pair of speakers up top, more efficient pair on the bottom...if the cab is a slant.

Opposite if the cab is a straight model.

I have a '90s Marshall JCM 900 1960A angled 4x12 cab that I bought used with only 2 Celestion G-12T75 speakers in it. I bought a couple of used 16 ohm Celestion Vintage 30 speakers and installed them in an X pattern to copy the Bogner Uber Kab set up. I love the sound and I can tell the sound guy to either mike either speaker or run direct from my Palmer PDI-09 direct box.

if you have marshall 1960 cab or any with "stereo" inputs I like the sound of the cab much better by running two cables from the amp to the cab- one for each side or pair of speakers.

It does sound much warmer this way, though some have argued it makes no difference. IT DOES!

So your running the amp at 4 ohms ???

That was my question too. Each side of a 4x12 that has 16ohm speakers in it is 8 ohms. Running two cables puts those two 8 ohm loads in parallel for 4 ohms total.

I have an old G12-65 in one bottom corner of a early/mid 70s greenback cabinet and am in no rush to swap it out. I love that cab as-is. Gives me an extra flavor for mic'ing too.
