Xotic EP Booster in front of high gain amp?

I could never bond with the EP Booster. It seems to boost muddy frequencies that get lost when you play with a band anyway. It has a small bump in the low-mids. Honestly the best boost out there if you don't actually need more overdrive is an EQ pedal. I've flipped dozens of pedals trying to find the right fit for this and that amp, and so many times I resort to an EQ and it does exactly what I heard in my head, and I was wasting time and money with overdrives, boosts, other "tone enhancer" type pedals.

To answer the OP's question although he's moving in a different direction. Yes and no on the EP booster, like most things you'll need to try it and see for yourself. As @Spaceboy said the EP Booster has a certain mid hump when set in it's default mode. That's either going to work for you or it won't. You can remove that bump with the dip switches inside and use as a simple boost though. The other thing to note, run it at 18v, sounds better to me. Again, though we all have opinions on what does and does not work for us but as the player, try it. What works for one person might not for someone else.

For low level playing I use the EP booster in default mode, adds a bit of thickness. Playing at rehearsal or stage levels I remove that and use the simple CAE Boost/Line Driver. A very underrated pedal. Going to try the Source Audio Boost as I'm a fan and owner of their products.

Btw/ good luck with the FX8, I did the same as you several years back. Unfortunately I could not get it to work for me. Great product though, just didn't bond with it and why as I said above...you gotta try things yourself.

Not all EP pedals are the good. I went through them all and for me I kept the Badgerplex EP Pre. It sounded 99% like my early 70’s echoplex. The badgerplex actually adds some compression like a real echoplex and uses a real TIS 58 transistor.

Agreed. I went through the Clinch and the Chase and I settled on the EP because I liked what it did at low volumes in the default mode. As always, just boils down to what you get along with.
