Which works better for a slight boost for high gain amps?

been using the RC for over 5 years now with different high gain amps, it responds well with amp gain, I pretty much have it on all the time.
I usaed the BB but I find it's more of an overdrive, too hot for using as a boost

I'm using an Xotic BB MB with my RK100... Sounds fabulous! The midrange pot gives you expanded voicing with the bass and treble.

I also use the bb mb as a boost - in front of my mesa roadster. It can be dialed in to sound more or less identical to a tube screamer and has a lot more tone sculpting options. Compared to a screamer, it has more and less of everything on tap. I hear a certain kind of clarity and detail in the highs vs the screamer.

Never tried an rc boost but it is definitely marketed as a clean boost...perhaps "really clean"?

For some reason, the gain available on my BB MB tops-out at around 50-60% max... After that, I'm not hearing any difference. I may need to send it back.

out of the two i'm thinking the RC , more open to my ears

the BB is great however, compresses somewhat and a nice sounding mid range, i tend to use it as an overdrive/broken up clean on it's own into the clean channel, suits me better, for pure boosts i go for an EQ pedal usually

I have the bb+, though I only use the right side (the less gain side). I find that it works great as a boost using the normal settings, volume 3, gain 9, with eq to taste. I do set my amp at an AC/DC level of gain for best performance though, as it kicks it into a great roaring sound.

If I read the OP's question, it was about boosting a HIGH gain amp.
So, if you are looking for a volume boost, the RC is great.
It can add a little grit as well, should you want that, yet the RC has clean headroom.
I like it on any channel for a transparent boost.

Now, the BB with mid is a different animal.
The BB has a TON of gain on tap and some good tonal shaping options as well.
The question is what you WANT fom your pedal.
A high gain amp probably doesn't need more gain, yet I have used the BB with many different amps and it does sound consistently good for that use.
As mentioned above, when an amp is set with "some" gain added, the BB can take it into intense.
Plus it has the tonal shaping controls that are often nice to have is a boosted tone.

Ideally...try both, otherwise if you prefer the versatility I would go with the BB because you get more tonal shaping options and you don't HAVE to crank the gain, even though that can be fun too.

Good Luck
