To me the little Yamaha x is a blast at low volumes, how does the katana stack up. Thinking about getting one of them.

Have had both. For “low volumes” the Yamaha.
Katana to me shined best at loud volumes.

Had the Katana. Sounded OK, but not very good string definition on the high gain settings, imho. My biggest issue was that there was no iOS/Android app at the time for deep diving into the settings (perhaps now they do?). Had to use my Mac for editing anything but basic settings, which was not very convenient.
IMO might be OK as a bedroom amp, but not very good in a live setting.
