this might be common knowledge but it was news to me. I just downloaded No Parole from Rock and Roll from iTunes and it came with a bunch of bonus tracks. the bonus tracks were the tunes in demo form without vocals. very fun to listen to and so cool to hear Yngwie just kinda cut loose running through those tunes!

Yeah I bought the CD with the bonus tracks last year. Live Sentence was also reissue with the entire shoe and a bonus DVD of the entire show!!

I just purchased this a few months back. I've had the regular version since HS in the late 80's. Man, what a trip from the past and a reminder of why he was my absolute favorite back then. The solo on Jet to Jet, well all of them really, but after the sixteplet part, he just kills it. He just has such a great swing and feel to his playing. It's not quite Django, but it's the same head rush that I get when I listen to him, just how does his mind work so fast to play those hooks in between all of those notes. I know Yngwie went on and I loved everything through Eclipse, but Alcatrazz will always be the highwater mark for me. The perfect balance of speed and grace.

IMHO Yngwie at his best with Alcatrazz. The solos were melodic, furious, and had direction. The top tier of that sort of thing. If anyone has a doubt, check out Alcatrazz's live CD. Other than Bonnett's horribly out of tune vox, Yngwie sounds hungry, angry, and pissed. A perfect storm! haha

That solo on the Jet to Jet demo is the pinnacle of rock guitar for me.
Absolute perfection.

Well, that and Soldier Without Faith.

Man, for me too! First time I heard that, I didn't know what an arpeggio was so it freaked me out!

I've sort of always felt the same about his early playing but I guess I attributed it to the 'new' factor. After a record or two that impact isn't as strong. I love that early tone too.

And by the way, his guitar tone really clean on those demos. It's tough to rip on a clean tone like that. His technique is unparalleled.

No doubt! I saw him at the guitar show here in Dallas, playing with a backing track and he just killed it!

I saw him at the "Arcadia Theater" in Dallas when he first came out on tour in America,I believe it was the Rising Force album/tour.front row because nobody really knew who he was and Me and a few friends of mine just went straight to front row,it was awesome! He blew us away,it was maximum intensity!

Honestly, when people rip on him I just have to think they must be bass players at heart. How the hell can you question this guys talent and impact on rock guitar? One and only.

Always has and always will be my favorite guitarist. I have every cd and enjoy them all.

My favorite yngwie era by far. I saw them at the Country Club in Reseda in 1983 or 84. Unbelievable show !!

Agreed! This was the end of the Pre-drug era Yngwie. He was still pretty sober and free from the coke which kicked in HEAVILY soon after. Bonnet was drinking like a mad man during the Alcatrazz years. If you want the details check out the unofficial autobiography of Yngwie.

Pre-cocain and pre-car accident Yngwie = Godly
Cocaine + post-car accident Yngwie = Still up there
Sober Yngwie = Garbage

Pretty much untouchable 81-86. Unbelievable phrasing, melody, feeling, fluidity, power. So awesome to listen to and just take in. He really was unique and somewhat of a genius within his genre before it got stagnant.

Lol. Doesn't he still sit around in his studio drinking red wine and chain smoking? I guess you mean cocaine free. I just have never recovered from War to end all Wars. Drum machines and horrendous song writing and production. He should have left the production to the pros.

When he met April he went totally cold turkey! He plays alot of tennis and drinks ALOT of diet coke now instead of the full fat powder ;) Even stopped smoking!
I can't listen to anything post Eclipse, the cheese went from catchy to just pure fromage power metal. Is that the drum machine that sounds like two fish being slapped against a wall?

Yup thats the one ! I really liked Eclipse but for me it declined after. There literally is nothing left for him to do now.
