Wow. Schon and Lukather slammed in the same thread.

Agreed.

Schon is better than 99% of the players out there. Hard to believe he's getting bashed.

Typical internet forum bullshit. Everyone's a guitar god.

This is my Favorite Journey....BY FAR!
Such good GOOD music...

Man do I love that era of Journey. Greg really was the keystone, although I do dig Escape too.

I need to get one of those mustaches.

The 80s Shrapnel shred scene really screwed Neil's playing. He went from a tasty feel type player with a great clear tone to a wannabe shredder with a washy fuzzier tone. He's not from that school of playing nor does he have the chops to pull it off, so it sounds mushy, messy & amateurish at times. Same thing happened to Steve Lukather imo. Both should drop the rack gear & go back to their old tones & bluesy fell type playing.
Rack gear? I thought the foundation of his tone is a Freidman?

He may be using a Friedman, but he has a HUGE multi rack system as well with a million different effects.

Luke uses a relatively simple pedal board and two Bogner amps. Zero rack gear. He plays like a friggin monster.

I quite like Arnell ,I think his singing is badass .does he sound exactly like Perry no, but Could Steve Perry tour 6 months and sing like that doubtful.

There is some crazy crazy stuff on the Eclipse album go listen to Tantra ,the vocals are nuts in that song.

Schon has some great moments agreed live he uses too much delay on the fast parts . but he still has soul.

BY the way did that Soul Sirkus ever come out ,he was riffing pretty good there ..did it just fold after the single

That project lasted a little over 3 years, and was actually a very fun, challenging, and lucrative adventure.

That's great!

The area I'm in is too small market to support a large-scale tribute effort, but I think that would be a lot of fun. I'd want to do a Tesla tribute :)

The Journey tribute seemed to span age and genre gaps, and ALWAYS had TONS of girls, and really nice crowds. The biggest festival we did-- we headlined in front of 18,000 in Waikiki and it was surreal.

Shon is a killer guitar player. My favorite era is the Live Captured Album with Greg Rollie.

If you're going to do a Journey tribute, the least you could have done was found a singer who resembled Steve Perry...geesh ;)
