Man I still have my DigiTech GSP 21 Legend Pro with footboard from the early 90's. I should fire that thing up today and laugh.

yeah i remember...like many on here i had a wonder fridge size rack and it kills me now a days that i had to have all that to play guitar...now i just have a amp head and cab..funny that......i guess i had done so many gigs that carting it about was starting to get tedious and once u are mic'd up through the PA your whole intricate rig is now just a smush in the mix w/ all the other instruments, its gr8 to have in ya bedroom or practice but not practical for shows, and the audience dosnt care either...
thanx for that post, took me down memory lane dude

Yessir. LAB Sound was where the Mesa Hollywood store is now. That place was too cool, back in the day. Never knew who you may run in to.

I forgot about these guys, some very cool racks back in the day and some shots of killer 80s Anderson guitars.

Yes.... Yes I do. They were the 1st Mesa/Boogie retail outlet, IIRC. I bought my MKIII Coliseum from the Sherman Oaks store (The 1st location-- I think). The 2nd store was the one in Orange County. THAT location is where I saw/heard the 1st mega rack I'd ever witnessed "in person". It changed my perspective on EVERYTHING. I remember it having a MKIII racked, Strategy 400 poweramp, TC 2290, TC1210, TC 1128, Eventide H3000SE, DBX 160X, and the tones were MAGICAL, and unlike ANY rig I'd ever heard up to that time. I also got my 1st 2290, and the 0144 controller from there, along with my 1st Zion Radicaster. THAT was a fun shopping day.

Very cool story Zach

Amazing. So, so 80s. Love how all of the tones are totally soaked in chorus/reverb/delay.

No, I didn't mean that the tones sounded bad, I just thought they were very representative and I guess characteristic of the era.

Hehehehe ya lots of guys gave me crap about having good gear--- on a gear forum, of all places... How ironic. Fuck those noobs

I was just being silly, not trying to come across as abrasive to your comment. Ya, back then all the stuff was new, and like a hot rod-- guys were always trying to have the fastest car on the block, and gun the engine at every given opportunity. I did think what Bob Bradshaw said about the "80's over processed thing" was poignant. He said he blamed a lot of that on the producers back then. But it's cool... I like 80's music too along with lots of other genres and generations.

I think the fact that big racks get associated with "80's" stuff in a derogatory way is sort of funny, because it stems from ignorance--from those who would mock it. I figure those who would mock gear, saying that it's 80's or whatever-- are saying more about their creative vision, and ability to navigate gear to do what they want it to-- then they are about the gear itself.
