Time to open up the floyd rose big brass block can of worms :D I have a couple of brass blocks from Floyd Rose Upgrades and they're great. For my EVH, I decided to give KGC a try mainly because I was curious about the spring retainer. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do a direct comparison with the FU block but when I handled the KGC block it seemed substantially heaver than the FU but again can't say for sure. The finish is certainly superior and the engraving adds a little extra as well. Installed well and made an already "loud" guitar (acoustically) even louder and fatter. The guitar was also noticably heavier, in a good way. Now I might be imagining things but to me it sounded like the tone improved even further when I installed the spring retainer. It seemed to be louder with a touch more sparkle. That said, the gotoh floyd already had a brass block so the difference wasn't that dramatic but it is definately better. Anyway, here are some pics of the new bling:

Didn't you find that you needed to add a spring to compensate the increased weight?

Agreed on your conclusion though. I bought the 42mm for my Charvel and that totally changed the feel of that guitar, acoustically and weight. Bought 32mm to put in my Anderson's. Got one changed out but have gotten around the others yet. I used the new KTS brass claws on them as well.

Definitely a recommended mod for relatively cheap $$$.

I had three springs on there already and they are cranked down to keep the bridge resting on the body. It did feel a little bit slinky-er but as soon as I put the spring retainer on for some reason the action returned to how it felt before I swapped it out...weird  Are your floyds floating?

No, not floating.

No, not floating.

Could be that the larger sized block puts the holes for the strings closer to the claw so adding a spring or tightening it up with just two on there would compensate for any distance change...
