The thing with hopelessness, apart from the fact that it's often the straw that breaks the camel's back, is that in and of itself it's a state of mind that can be broken by a single revelation or piece of good news.
I've been in a hopeless situation / state of mind many times, sometimes for many years on-end, and for sure it's a dangerous place to be. You have to be super-resilient and trust that somehow things will pick up, lest you give up. I've had over 20 nervous breakdowns and I'm still here. Not going anywhere.
Prolonged hopelessness, especially coupled with a lack of resilience, is a dangerous state to dwell in for the vast majority of peeps.
