You guys ever heard of this band called Blue Murder?

One of the things I loved about Sykes was his deep knowledge of history and love of it to write some incredible tunes about the stories

Ptolemy is another great example!

Never heard of him. I think the guitarist from Whitesnake (1987 album) kills this guy.

Honestly in a way I’m glad Coverdale got rid him…because we got Blue Murder…I don’t know that Coverdale would have done these tunes justice…just my opinion fwiw

Same with Jake and Gillen…those badlands tunes (especially the first album)…not Ozzy material, and I love Ozzy tunes 😅

They're so pretty. 💕 I could never figure out chick rock. WTF is that anyway?

Motley Crue really was the worst of that shit! Come on girlies, it's fun! Girls, girls girls! GGGGGGheyyyyy. Chick rock killed itself, metal like Pantera lives on.

I used to think, "why would you listen to that crap when there is Black Sabbath & Slayer?"

Merciful Fate, DIO and Judas Priest were about as close to chick rock for me.

Imagine Ray gillen on vocals which was initially planned. Also jazzy fretless bass was weird choice to hair metal era. Franklin looked like east germany footbaler 😜 It was too ambitious to break big. Sykes look, great playing, great voice didnt help. Shame

I could not have said it better 🤣
Love John, he’s been a major influence to me; one of very very few who were able to combine such high level of song writing, guitar playing with fantastic “tone” AND singing, and just overall larger than life rock star presence IMHO.
Those late 80’s / early 90’s Blue Murder live gigs especially were mind blowing.

Probably before your alls time

Just asking a question; not being snarky here. Why do you think it’s before ours time? Are you asking if we’s are too young and don’t listen to the past music? Or do you’s believe that RT’s is a bunch of guys who listen and play new millennium music only?
Most people in this forum are really good at music history and have followed John Sykes from Tygers of poon Tang as well as the other shred heads from 60-70-80s and up. The ages of RTers range probably from early 20s-70 years old here. I’d bet as a collective the history of rock music could be written from RT by memory from the collective.

I remember downloading some of their stuff off Napster when I was still in my wanna be guitar hero phase
