The cab originally came with Celestion G12M-70's... Enough said...

How about something different?? No V30's, GB's or 12H's.. What else would sound good?

check out some eminence speakers, I like the Texas heats

So I'm going to assume a high gain amp in a metal/hard rock function. I would try a Fane Ascension F-70, or F-90 speaker.

I am dull... I bought an old Red Bear top cab years ago that had blown speakers for cheap... very solid birch cabinet. I put 2 V30s and 2 Greenbacks in it... boom.

G12-K100 for high gain IMO
I was goin' to say: G12-K85.

Make sure it's in good condition, check for a ribbed cone, as the smooth cones are bass speakers.

I usually don't care for 1x12's, but hearing a G12K-85 by itself is something else...very full-range, yet tasty.
It has more highs definition than a G12-65.
It has more mids and less fizz than a G12-T75 (well, seriffed font mid 80's versions notwithstanding),
It has a bigger low-end, yet tighter than most ANY Celestion
It doesn't crap out under volume like Greenies (assuming you play with 50W or more)
It doesn't smear
It doesn't 'gurgle'.

Combine it with a V30 and you have all the punch and definition you'd want.

Quad of WGS ET-65's :)

Very Warm speakers and versatile.
