Wondering how you fella's are setting channel 1 mostly and what Preamp tubes if you know :dunno:
This is what I do.
CHANNEL 1
Gain: 3 o'clock
Volume: 1-2 o'clock
Treble: 12-1 o'clock
Mids: 3 o'clock
Bass: noon
When I dime the gain to about 3 o'clock it really brings the clean and crunch/texas modes to life for me, ALOT more touch sensitive. The mega mode still sounds good, lots of saturation almost too much but in a good-sounding-boosted-out-Marshall-kind-of-way.
Channel 2
Gain: 1 o'clock
Volume: 3 o'clock
Treble: 1 o'clock
Mids: 2 o'clock
Bass: Noon
These setting change from room to room. Sometime I scoop the mids other times I boost them. Depends on how hot or boombostic the room is.

If you haven't tried it I recommend raising the gain on Ch 1. I need to check my tube in V1, it could be a 12AT7. Had it for 2 yrs and change the power tubes twce. Maybe thats why I need so much gain? If I don't raise the gain the clean mode is really quite compared to the texas and mega modes. It seems like the gain knob acts more as the volume for mode 1 then the actual vol. knob.

I recently tried a 12AT7 in v1 of my Einstein combo when I was sent some by mistake instead of the selected Rubies I had ordered and while doing wonders for the clean and texas channels it left Mega and channel 2 with a lot less saturation, punch and a good deal less gain which for some is great but for me I felt that I needed the gain levels and response of a 12AX7 so it was back in with the standard ruby.

EQ wise my settings wont help much as I have 3 band parametric in the serial loop which makes most of the front panel settings moot. My only caveat is that the paraeq was setup primarily on the second channel after I had backed off the bass and boosted the deep to keep if tight, dimed the mid and fed in a healthy dose of presence.

I set my Einstein combo up conservatively. All of the tubes are from Peter in Germany, and brand new.
I usually use Mode 2 and bring the gain up until I hear a bit of saturation, but not so much that I cannot clean up the sound with my guitar's volume control.

Depending on the stage setting and accoustics of the venue, I wind up with my presence at 12, deep at 12, gain at 1, treble at 1-1:30, mids from 10:30 to 12, bass at about 11-12, ch one master volume up to a level for the room.

Ch 2 is usually set similar to ch one, but I set up the gain so that I get a singing tone, and use the EQ to adjust the sound to be even. I set the second master volume up with a slight volume increase for boosting. Each venue requires slight adjustments to suit the setting, and of course, the guitar and pickups also affect the settings.

Between my guitar and the amp is a Vox Clyde McCoy wah, to a Goodrich volume pedal to a Road Rage mini-buffer to the amp input. In the series loop, I use a TC Nova System. All cables are Pedal Snake as they are the easiest and lay beautifully on the floor. They suck no tone at all and make setting up and tearing down MUCH easier.

I try to use as little extra gear as possible to keep the tone as good as I can. I have found out over time that simpler is often times better in more ways then one.

Thanks guys but I use head not a combo. I think the the eq is Vastly different between a combo and a sealed back 2x12, IMO.

I use the same method EQing when I use a closed back 2x12 Diezel cab. I wind up listening to the room I am playing in, to EQ the amp. I don't use a standard setting wherever I play.

Obviously your guitar, the way you desire your amp to sound, the foot toys you use, and other factors, all come into play and affect the sound of your amp.

I had a 12AT7 in V-1 for awhile and just cranked the dials up more.

I try not to look at the dials as I am bending them, but use my ears to let me know when I like the setting.

Here you have mine for the head:
Ch. 1
Gain: 12 to 3 o'clock
Volume: noon
Treble: 2 o'clock
Mids: noon (sometimes a little scooped around 10 or 11)
Bass: 11 or noon

Ch. 2
Gain: somewhere between 11 and 2 o'clock depending on the style I'm playing and guitar.
Volume: noon
Treble: 1 o'clock
Mids: noon
Bass: between 11 and noon

For heavy stuff (A tuning and alike) I use-in the effects loop-a slight comp and an eq with a gentle cut at 180-200 Hz to leave some room for the snare.

I have the same situation with mine. I wish that there would come out an Einie in a VH4 format, or with footswitchable and independent volumes for the channel 1 modes. That would be the amp of the century!

Peace

well the gain knob on a clean channel is in fact a volume knob until the tube(s) go(es) into saturation/distortion. that's why the gain knob has the biggest influence on the volume in channel 1 mode 1. the other modes of channel 1 are already saturated (distorted), so the gain knob is mainly for distortion intensity.
if you use the einstein mod and a mid switcher, you could assign a midi program to each channel and use an fx volume to even out the volume differences between the modes. in that case you'd have a virtual 4 channel amp but you would have to sacrifice some amp attack since this process is subtractive.
