I am thinking to purchase a OD pedal, I have never boosted before.

I am trying to get that over the top Crazy High gain METAL sound mainly for rhythm guitar.

Maxon 0820?

:rock:

OCD, BB Preamp.

Get that Dano pedal that is a copy of the OCD for cheap, or the other one that is the cop of the Timmy. Don't recall the model names, I'll find it for you.

Here we go:
OCD=Cool Cat Overdrive
Timmy=Transparent Overdrive

BB Pre and or MXR Wylde over drive, use them on all my amps.

I use an SD-1 'cause it was cheap. 5150 II is the amp. I plan on modding it to TS-9 specs.

I like the Maxon and OCD.

What Dano pedal is it that's modelled after the OCD? I want it.

See above.

I use an Analogman modded Boss SD-1. It's the perfect OD for me, but I don't play the "crazy over the top high gain metal." I typically set the level as high as it will go, the tone between 1 and 2 O'clock (fairly high), and the distortion just barely up. In this manner it's more of a boost. With the Analogman 808 mod plus the versatility of the push/pull pot (symmetrical/asymmetrical) I can get from smooth "texas blues" overdrive to gritty hard rock sounds. In front of my Egnater Renegade 2nd channel it's all the gain I need.

I use an SD-1 set as a clean boost with a Marshall amp. I LOVE the way it tightens up the low end and makes the mids nice and juicy. I made comparison clips of guitar straight to amp and boosted with the SD-1 (because plugging your guitar into the pedal changes the tonality of your guitar even when bypassed) and it makes it so much tighter and present with the boost. The bypassed tonal coloring isn't a bad thing though because to my ears it's a good change. I suspect that most pedals do this to some degree. I use it whenever I am recording anything because it helps the tracks to stand out and not sound muddy.

I've used a TS-9 for years with pretty much everything I've had. The two amps that didn't like it were a 5150 a Mako Dorado. Sounded good with everything else, especially a Dual Rectifier. I didn't like that amp at all without the TS. I'm very curious to try some other boosts though. I'm really curous to try a pure clean boost.

I'm using a handmade overdrive pedal from someone on Sevenstring.org called a Bodenhamer Bloody Murder. I'm also a high-gain metal guitarist and this is undoubtedly the best boost/overdrive I've ever used. It's pricy, but you aren't going to find anything quite the same on the market. The Ibanez TS7/9 are standard overdrives that you can't go wrong with, and can find used incredibly cheap.

Rocket fuel pedal and the bb pre-amp and the MXR zak wylde overdrive. my top three at this time. Don't have a Tim or Timmy yet.

I use a Banzai Fireball II od, most recently with my Dr. Z Maz 18. I run the level almost full up, with the 1st channel's gain down around 8 o'clock & the 2nd channel a bit higher.

I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this pedal, but only because it's so tweakable. At the moment, I've got it set to be fairly transparent, but with a tad of mid-boost. Does a nice job of retaining the Z's tone but just adding a bit of rich gain when needed.

The MXR GT-OD made me shelve all my ther OD pedals. Warm, rich harmonics, tight and low noise. Gives you an insane modern metal rhythm tone.

Barber LTD. I can put it in front of anything and it sou ds great. Thickens up a high gain sound, and brings a little breakup or nice mild OD to a clean channel. Had mine for 4 years now, and sold every other OD pedal I had except the keeley sparkle drive.

Fulldrive 2 - sold
Menatone TBIAC- sold
Boss Blues driver - sold
OCD - sold
Mr. Ed - sold
Ultimate octave - sold
etc....

I've tried a ton and the Xotic BB Preamp is a winner for me. It definately preserves your original tone. :thumbsup:

My Fav is the Barber Direct Drive. Ballz. I have a dozen or so ODs on the shelf and none of them sound as big as the DD to me. Sounds great with every amp ive owned. I also really like the MXR microamp. The Timmy is great too.
