I know this may seem sort of silly, but I'm on the hunt for a volume pedal.

What does everyone here think is most transparent and linear?

Cheers,

Greg

I like the Ernie balls fine, but the George Dennis volume pedals take the cake. Totally transparent, optical control. Pricey, but worth it. Works equally well in front of an amp or in the loop with no impedence mismatch issues.

I have not tried everything out there, but my Lil' Alligator has a minimum volume knob that has turned out to be very useful
The sweep on the pedal is pretty narrow though, not real fond of that

So far it's the George Dennis Volume/Pan for me. Doesn't seem to suck any tone and it's a dead quiet, awesome little pedal. There's absolutely no issue with running two amps either. No ground issues or hum. I've had it for years and love it.

The only one I haven't tried is the Visual Sound one.

Ernie Ball VP jr. my fave.

Same here. Ive tried ALOT of them and for the money and the size, I liked the 6180 the best. The new Dunlop DVP is a great pedal as well but kinda big. The George Dennis is excellent but pricey and large and while it is an awesome pedal, It wasnt worth the extra bucks to me..

I have one of the new Dunlop one's and it pretty much makes everything else obsolete. Takes up a wad of real estate on the board though. Completely transparent and a tuner out.

I use active pickups... does that mean I have a problem

Then youd want the EB 6181 with the 25k pot , specifically made for active elevtronics compared to the 6180 with the 250k pot for passives..

My wife plays a Warwick Thumb w/ active electronics. We used the EB VP jr. for a while, but there was always something lackluster about her tone. Switched her to a Geeorge Dennis, and her tone came to life!

Seems like the EB softens the high's and low's and overall feel a bit.

I think I'm going to roll with the George Dennis. Thanks everyone :)

I bought a hilton, and have yet to try it out... it has no pot, no strings like the EV VP, ect... and should last me a lifetime.

Boss FV500, gets my vote

Ditto.

I keep breaking EB's

It's only happened to me once, and after trying to fix that damned thing (PITA)-- it was enough to ensure I will NEVER use one again.

Long time Mark-- Hope all has been going well.
