ace frehley-i didnt think it was possible for me to ever get the timing right on detriot rock city.

jimi hendrix-pulled my hair out trying to learn vodoo chile slight return,...then saw the woodstock video,..his use of his thumb and index fingers on his fretting hand,..made things alittle bit easier.

tony iommi-sounds so powerfull!!...and simple...but the stuff he does in between notes is brilliant!

randy rhodes-after seeing him live on the blizzard of oz tour,..i went out and traded my fender lead 1 for a jackson,...very refreshing/new approach to heavy metal guitar at the time.

all the old time delta blues guitarists-what these old blues dudes did with so little currently has my attention,..they used some realy odd tunings,..but when you finaly get in the groove its hard to stop!!,...almost zen like,..where ya can just turn your mind off and just let it flow,..alot of fun to play,...it's my default mode.

:rock: When your listening to the Beatles and Elton John at age 5, it's all about melody. I used to listen to the early Elton John albums over and over. This was before he entered the disco era. Some great songs and melodies from the band and Davey.

ace frehley/shock me tapping solo i learned on ukelele, and before that it was hawaiian slack key masters i grew up listening to live as a kid, and roy clark on laugh in.
 
I'm definitely in the Senior Citizen's section....Davey Johnstone was my first influence. I loved the early Elton stuff when he had his original band (Dee Murray, Davey, Nigel Olsson). The stuff that came after 1976, much more hit-and-miss IMO.

I think after a certain point, even though you totally dig certain players, they have less influence on your style than the folks you were checking out in your formative years. For instance, I think Shawn Lane was absolutely a genius and I love both his playing and writing, but he didn’t influence my playing as much as influence my insight into what is possible on guitar. Holdsworth is like that for me, too. Then there’s the fact that I just cannot physically execute like these cats! Now, I think my playing in more influenced by the music I listen to than by actual individual players.

I have never been able to play other guys solos, never could get them to sound right... I play wrong :)
Though I did learn to nail the solos from "The Introduction" by Morse and "Friday Night" by Adrian Vandenburg... and some licks here and there from other guys

I can't really say what solos or things I've picked out from any of those guys. I've probably played all of it at some point or another, with varying levels of success.

I honestly have no idea what my soloing style is.. I just do what I do, I don't think about it.
