Either your pedal sucks or you have better (or different) ears than me

 haha, nicely placed my fellow randal-lite! I think Zakk's ears probably suck. That guy will play anything with his name on it. Essentially Zakk's guide to effects seems to be everything on 10 and a noise gate. Need some trem in there? 10. Vibe ? why not! 10, phaser?? screw the subtle phase, crank it. OD?? stack two of them...... gain on 10.

By that formula he's got the chorus permanently on, dialed to 20. Man do I despise Zakk's tone, from any era.

Hehe, I wouldn't go as far as that, I seem to recall liking his tone on the Just Say Ozzy ep. At least I think I think I liked it.

I saw this thread so I went out on a limb to try his sig pedals...They sound absolutely great! I love 'em..I did find a backwards diode in the sig rotovibe battery circuit so I'm waiting for another one to show up..haha. Seriously tho, these are great sounding pedals and I love to try everything out there...

I use it and like it. I use a power supply, but keep a battery in it as well, use an ISP Decimator too.

I had a Zakko OD and it did squeal if you tried to dial any gain in to add some extra dirt...i no longer own it for this reason...

They must have put out a bad batch or something.
Mine squeals too, but i keep the gain at 1/3rd and use a gate, that works pretty good.

I don't mind the ZW boost at all, but it's not even close to my fav. After years, I still love the BB+ Blue channel as a boost on any amp. It just sounds phenomenal. 808s are very cool with certain amps.

I played his first series pedal as a clean boost on solo's it made a tremendous difference on sustain and feel. tone to taste, gain on zero, volume all the way up, it did wonders for passive pickups. sounded great to me as well.

I keep one on for solo's, not a single problem with noise.

It is based on the SD-1 FWIW - anyone wanting to reduce noise can just go buy a DIY BYOB SD-1 pedal and be done, but why when this does just as good as a clean boost.

I agree the Zakko wasn't a bad pedal.I got some decent results out of it as long as i kept the gain at 0 my other OD's were much better in terms of flexibility and definately generated less noise.I ended up building a BYOC classic OD and it kills it.I can do so much more with the 808 clone.

It's not a horrible pedal, just limited. After putting another week on this thing and having someone else play it while I drummed, I do see it's use. This thing def cuts some bass and it adds a mid honkiness that really cuts when you are in a band mix. So you sacrifice some lows in order to cut through. Not necessarily a bad thing. The pedal was best with a plexi style amp just crunched up . I could then put the gain up to about 11 and it didn't squeal like a pig. It was a nice crunchy controlled distortion. Enough for me to solo on anyway. I think it might have it's place. I like it gain set to zero with a more overdriven tone as well. Again, there is some of that bass cut and lower mid cut but that might not be a bad thing in context of a band. However like many others, i think there are def better options out there. GT-OD is prob a better pedal overall. This whole notion of transparent OD can really be a nightmare for tone chasers.

Speaking of Zakk gear, how is the WAH? That thing must have gobs of gain.

the zakk wylde wah sounds best when their is an overdrive in front of it.

I liked mine with my Vintage Modern - here's a sample, no loss of bass or squeal! Definitely works better as a clean boost with only a bit of gain added.
