I actually think the EVH and RR topic was a lot more "even" than this one, IMO Jake wins by a pretty lopsided margin. With everything else being equal (which it isn't) I'd have to give it to Jake just on phrasing and not being repetitive.

Even if I wasn't sick of Zakk's dirty redneck biker image and the hearing the same licks and pinch harmonics ad nauseum, I still just don't think he's in the same class as Jake. Jake could outplay him with with his meth pipe tied behind his back

I know I'm in the minority here but I really hate the BLS stuff, Zakk's voice is just SO bad that there's no way I could ever get into that.

Zakk's guitar playing bring a tear to my eye from the pain it brings to my head.
Jake's guitar playing brings a tear to my eye from the passion it brings to my heart.

Jake all the way.

I'd say you're in the majority, BLS seems to appeal to 'special' people!

Last I heard of Jake....well....I haven't. Gotta say though Jake was pretty cool in Badlands.

Love them both but lean towards Zakk. The guy just had gobs of piss and vinegar that I tend to gravitate towards but I would never claim one was better than the other. Jakes tone didnt really do it for me but I dug it on the Ultimate Sin Live...

Zakk has been on autopilot for years but make no mistake, that guy is (was) a beast of a player who could unleash the fury or play some really great, sensitive stuff. His Vibrato is awesome, It fits the songs and his style to a T.

After this poll, I went back and relistened to both players this weekend and decided that theyve both got their own thing going on and are both supremely badass. I truly cant pick one over the other because at any given moment, I could easily prefer what one has over the other. They both bring so much to the table that I thoroughly enjoy that trying to say one is better than the other seems silly at this point..

IMO Jake E Lee by light years. Zakk was a fill in player at best. I take Brad Gillis over him as well.

Jake was unique. he still had roots in older players like Tommy Bolin, etc, but supercharged it with his own originallity. The Badlands albums were awesome. Zakk has nothing to compare. That drunk biker pig image is a joke as is his dramatic shit vibrato. Adding country licks to Ozzy tunes? What a revelation. He cites Frank Marino as a major influence but I don't hear it. I just hear a punk that got lucky on a Randy Rhoads replacement audition. Shoes i think Brad Gillis filled better by far.

I stopped listening to Ozzy as soon as he joined.

I dont know, I think that he did a bit more than fill in. The pride and glory albums along with the first several BLS albums were awesome. You may not like Zakk's vibrato but its definitely a unique part of his style that alot of people rave about. YJM has pretty damn wide vibrato as well.. EVH cites Clapton as his biggest influence but I have yet to hear any of it in his playing, do you? As far as Gillis goes, I love the guy but the only thing that he did in Ozzy was play somebody else songs. Have you heard Zakk do the Randy stuff? He kills on it..

It really is nothing more than a preference/opinion thing and I get that but if all he is is a lucky punk hack to you , I have to believe that you never gave the guy a chance and wrote him off without really listening to him.

just my .02

Nutcase for stating my opinion? The poll is a landslide so others agree Jake was a better player.

Brad Gillis had Night Ranger which was far nore successful than all the Zakk projects put together. As to how he played Randy's parts? Big deal. He had decades to work on somebody elses material.
