Anybody use this fucking turd? I just got one today and I'm having nothing but trouble with it. I got it for better quality audio in my videos and quicker uploads, so far I'm seeing neither.

what kind of problems are you having?
i like mine, except that you cant see a damn thing in low light.
best audio quality for loud music is on lo input gain mode. use the bass cut and the highest quality video/audio settings possible.

I like mine.

Like sdrootsman says, use the low setting with the bass cut for loud music. The auto setting compresses too much IMO.

There's a firmware upgrade for the low lighting problem available on their web site too. http://www.zoom.co.jp/

I just ordered one of these, hope it is as cool as I thought they were

I have the mic gain set to auto and the scene select set to auto. I have the low cut off. The biggest problem I have is trying to upload to YouTube. Every time I try it uploads for about a half hour till it's 90% and then I get a network error message and I have to start over. From what I see on the Zoom site they blame it on YouTube. All my videos in the past have been wmv files that uploaded within 5 minutes. Volumes seem very low too. I have to crank my sound card to hear the finished videos on YouTube.
My main reason for buying it was before I had to record with my camcorder, upload to my computer, edit to size, convert to wmv, and upload to YouTube. The whole process took 30 minutes for a 3 minute video. I was hoping for something easier and quicker to get the videos uploaded, but so far it takes me much longer with the Zoom and I'm not sure I hear much of an audio difference. My ears are fried today.

I have the firmware upgrade. Here's another video that took 45 minutes to upload. Is the audio any better than my old videos? I don't know what the hell I'm hearing today!
Jerry

The old vids sound and look better imo. I thought the Q3 was supposed to be awesome

I thought it was too! I knew the video quality would be a bit less, but for easier downloads and better audio I was willing to trade off some video quality.

Right out of the box, loaded the batteries, looked at the directions quick and hit record..........first thing I recorded.

It is in 44.1khz 24 bit and the files are huge though.

Put some amp heads in your car and zoom up to Limelight for a day. I have a couple of Mesa 4x12"s. We can do some demos dude!!! I'm across the bridge from Massena, NY.

Where's the amp in relation to the camera?

I'd love to drive up, finding time is the problem.

About 4-5' away not facing the speaker cab but 90 degrees off axis but in line with the cab, the unit is about 1/2 way up the head while it was sitting on a 4x12. I was not even thinking about placement, just wanted to check it out and it came out ok. If you have the unit facing the speaker about 10' feet away with some volume working the Auto option will bring down the levels too much imo, use the low gain setting.

It took 2 hours to upload that little vid as it must be around 700 meg due to the 44.1k setting.

That video was 270MB and the audio was 48K 24 bit.

I liked the sound better on my own camera. I think placement is a big deal with these things at volume. A remote control would help a lot.

Just figured out one thing, it seems the audio quality has more to do with YouTube than what the Zoom records. Listening to the raw tracks on my computer there is a difference.

I dig mine, super simple to use, just get it back a bit from your amp and let it fly. I wouldn't download direct to youtube from it though, I'd save the files on my HD and then go to youtube and do it there.

Andy, your I-phone video looked a lot better than the Q3. I need to take a vid with my droid if I could just figure a way to prop it in position.
