Zuul works better with Active pickups?

I was playing my kxk and les paul back to back today, and I noticed the Zuul would not "fade to fizz" on notes, or clamp the middle of notes when the threshold is turned up with active pickups vs passive. It makes sense because you are getting a very hot signal comparatively, but I never would have guessed. Anyone else experience this?

Change the pcb mounted range switch setting, maybe that is your issue. Ive got like 6 zuul and clones. None have this issue you describe for me.

What I do, because I’m smart   , is use an MXR/CAE buffer to drive the key input into my Phalanx (Zuul clone)...but I only use the buffer out for the key input. The MXR/CAE has an adjustable buffer level and if I don’t want the gate to clamp as fast (to increase sustain), I increase the buffer signal to the key. This works differently from actual knob. :D

Yeah. I am actually not having problems with sustain at all. TBH the zuul is working near perfect. On my active there is no artifacts. That's the difference.

This is interesting. is it a two position switch or like a pot? Do you know what the different settings are there for and what they do?

If only there was a manual...

WTF is there not!

Well active pickups are generally less noisy and produce a more powerful and consistent signal so it kinda makes sense that it'd work better.

At least it kinda makes sense to me haha

it seems to oad down the key input level for using larger signals into the key input. It gives a more responsive dial with greater range when needed.
