which one is better for metal and modern stuff.. would be using in a PRS custom running threw a 6505 head..

Not to confuse you, but I am a HUGE fan of Motor City Pickups......

Call Wade, and tell him what you are looking for, what you are working with, and I guarantee that you will be happy!

Was thinking about posting the almost the same exact question. More specifically the Aldrich vs BKP Painkiller(already have). They are both kind of described the same on the MFR websites. Most likely be for drop D or D standard tuning on a alder body guitar, modded Marshall amp type. Curious about the 6505 combo too.

The Suhr Aldrich gets a lot of love around this forum, but in my experience it is to tame for agressive/modern metal. Bareknuckle has some good options for you, but in the end it is up to you. They also have a very good customer service. Call or e-mail them for a recommendation. They know what they are selling. I have a Nailbomb, which I think is pretty cool, but it may not be for you. It depends on many factors, so any opinions here are to be taken with a grain of salt. Besides, there is no better. For instance, Reza is a killer player, but I don't like the sound in that painkiller clip. Also, don'r rule out other brands. EMG's have never failed me for modern metal. Perhaps the new JH set is something to consider.

i completely understand its up to my ears.. i have EMGs in all my guitars except one.. but i was thinking about trying some passives out, that were in the same area as EMGs.. im looking for a aggressive passive pup that will do metal and modern stuff.. i play in drop tunings drop C,B,A so something that will sound good with that.. i know EMGS do that stuff was wandering what passives pups could do it as well..

Well, if youre looking for modern metal, Bareknuckle offer a lot of pickups for that...miracle man, aftermath, warpig, painkiller...even the coldsweat i had was great for D std. I think the Aldrich set is more 80's sounding with good high mids...bit like a better duncan JB.

That video that Reza put up of the Painkiller sounds great but unless I hear each side by side I can't tell what the differences are. Here is a little pickup comparison clip I put up a while ago when I first got my Painkiller. They all sound good to me. Much better in the room. One is the Painkiller in a basswood body fender wired without a tone knob with 11-70 strings. Other is a SD JB in same guitar and the third is a Jay Turser Les Paul copy($199 brand new) with stock no name pickup and 10-52 strings. Drop C tunining.

If the Aldrich is kind of like a JB with good high mids, I would think that would work well for the lower tuning as long as the low end stays tight.

okay now im confused??? lol so the suhr aldrich are to tame??? for my style... and what about those motor city pickups?? anyone ever try the NUKE or SOLUTIONS???

Seriously, check out the James Hetfield set. That's a bit closer to passives but still you have that nice attack that EMG's are known for. If you like EMG's then it is hard to find a good passive without changing amp settings/boosting etc. IMHO. I have been on this search as well and have the Suhr Aldrich (which is close to a SD JB) etc., you name it. The clip of that band with a Suhr is not helpfull, it only shows some studio tricks to get a sound (which was not that agressive for my taste). There are more clips by forums users that are more helpful.

Whilst I appreciate EMG's history and contribution to high gain tone, I have to say that - for me - there is really no comparison with BKPs. BKPs allow the natural tone of the guitar to come through and have a warmth and clarity that the more sterile EMGs can't match. Get a Miracle Man (closest BKPS to an EMG 81), an an Aftermath or Painkiller (if you play more chug chug djent type stuff) or, my preferred choice, a ceramic Nailbomb (for a touch mote warmth alongside the brutality).

well i have been doing my home work and i think i will try the BKP..i hae a GFS crunchy rail in my fender tele.. and that pickup sounds amazing.. sounds totally different then all my other EMG guitars.. so i was thinking if that 30.00 pickup sounds that good then really good passive would sound masive.. it seems that GFS pickup jsut brings out something that EMG's doesnt.. could be my untrained ears and mind.. but atleast i want to try some.. i think i will go with BKP at this time, now to decide on which ones.. ive got a cheap squire strat i going to put the suhr adlrich in at a later date.. its more my rock guitar.. thanks guys you have been awesome like always..
