I've been meaning to write this since yesteday when the amp arrived, but I was just so depressed that I put it off until today.
As I posted with great enthusiasm and excitement last week, I had won a Diezel Einstein on eBay for a fantastic price. I watched the tracking information daily.
Yesterday it arrived. The seller packed it in a very roomy box and the only packing materials he used were kids clothing and toys...yes...toys. Amongst the toys was a toy tea set and one of the plates broke in shipping and cut deep down through the tolex and into the wood leaving a large 4-5" gash.
That was the best of it. It seems that someone at USPS was having a bad day so they kicked the box. The knob control plate on the front of the amp looks like it was literally kicked in. Its bent inward. In spite of the dent, the knobs and switches are intact and unscathed. these amps are built like tanks ready to go to war, so the hit to the face of the amp must have been of significant force.
I peered into the amp and the tubes all seemed fine and all the components and electronics looked fine. I plugged it in and it worked fine and sounded beautiful. The lovely tone of this amp just depressed me more.
Why am I writing this? First of all, to release and vent. Also, so that y'all can offer me some advice on what I should do.
I tried filing a claim with USPS and they said that I have to get the seller to mail me the ORIGINAL receipt. This guy as irresponsible as he was in packing this amp, I can only assume he threw the insurance receipt away. Also, USPS will reclaim the amp and, even if they reimburse the insured amount (the seller just insured how much I paid, not how much its worth) I will NEVER get this amp again simply because I can't afford how much it usually sells for.
So one of many questions is, should I just get the amp repaired and how much would that cost? Mr. Diezel, perhaps, you could give me a quote on fixing the face plate and a re-tolex?
What was supposed to be a great week has been a really bad week
