I finished up the Epic Tones mods on my JCA22H this weekend.

Depth mod - I like this one, but it's really only useful up to about 9 o'clock on the knob. After that, it gets boomy and mushy. I may try replacing the 0.0047 cap with a 0.0033 cap.

Negative feedback knob - Again, this is only useful to about 9 o'clock on the knob. After that, it gets too high end and raspy, but does get louder.

Front panel channel switch - No description needed here.

High cut knob - This is very subtle, but I can hear some smoothing out of the high end frequencies when adjusting the knob.

Saturation switch - I'm not a big fan of this. It drops the volume, which I'd expect. But it's a pretty significant drop. It also adds more saturation and gain than I'd ever use, and increases the bass a bit too much. Maybe I have something hooked up wrong. I'm considering changing some of these components, but have to learn more about which ones to adjust.

Presence mod - This adds a switch to go from the stock presence value to a different value. The new value makes the knob much more useful in its sweep. It doesn't introduce that sudden high end spike at about 8 on the stock value.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with these mods. My favorites being the main mods (Cap'n Crunch and Silver Hammer), which revoiced both channels. Cap'n Crunch gave the crunch channel 2 modes (plexi-ish and jcm800-ish), and the Silver Hammer turned the overdrive channel into and 80s hair metal machine.

Again, thanks to Bryce at Epic Tones for all of his help and recommendations. Super nice guy!

Silver hammer mod sounds good! Plexi/800 I already have too much of but I think the silver hammer is his take on the #39 sort of mod but no extra tube required?

Hi all, I'm very interested in the mods, especially the Depth one, but Epic Tone seems to have gone out of business...

Anyone aware of where else I could get info on how to do the mod? I would be comfortable gathering electronic components from wherever, but I don't have neither the skills nor time to "create" a mod like that myself...

You can find some mods on eBay

Have you contacted Epic Tones? They may still have some mods?

Also, Jet City custom amps might be able to help. They will hand build new amps with all kinds of mods

STAY AWAY from Mark Marshall/Mark Sedlock (referred to as Dark Darshall these days). Dude is bat shit crazy and not that great of a modder.

Epic Tones is on hiatus, but Bryce can still do some custom orders here and there.

The Depth mod could be preassembled for you no sweat, and all it takes is not even an hour's worth of your time to disassemble the amp, drill one hole, wire it up, and reassemble it.

Dang, wish I had read this earlier. I already bought his tutorial because he responded much quicker than Epic Tone... The good part is that it wasn't that expensive :D
Mark's mods included the Depth mod, and a Saturation switch, among others.
Also, it does clean up the clean channel quite nicely, I do actually find it useful.
But the OD channel is, arguably, worse than it was before the mods.

The saturation switch thing is... interesting. I think I do like it in some very special circumstances, when it works sort of like a compressor. Not super useful, but I do see myself using it sometimes.

Still interested in the Epic Tone mods for the OD channel, though. I'm in contact with Bryce now. His mods are rather pricy though, so it's a shame there's so little info on the myriad options available - would love to see more demos. Maybe they are somewhere on the web, gotta look around more... I want something more modern/more high gain than the Silver Hammer demonstrated in this thread, and there's quite a few mods offered by Bryce in that direction, but it's difficult to choose...

Jay has a Jet City that he modded from EPIC but looks like this one might be from our very on Jason @burger from Headfirst?
