Rackmounting pedals

I just received a Voodoo Lab GCX and Ground Control. This was kind of an impulse buy and I'm not sure what I was thinking...lol

I'd be getting a sliding shelf, mounting 4 to 6 pedals on it, and using a CIOKS power supply I have sitting around.

Any tips on this? General setup, cabling, placement/routing, etc?

Just thinking I'm going to be spending a sh*t ton on cabling to see this through.

I do something similar with an RJM effects gizmo and Strymon Zuma, switched with a Rocktron MIDI Raider.

I'd diagram it first. Order of the pedals, audio and power cable routing. Pay attention to whether the jacks are on the side or top of each pedal, for spacing.

Use cables that are the right length. I buy Mogami cable and make my own. You can order power cables of varying lengths too, with either straight or right angle ends. Having the right length and plug on each of the cables can make a huge difference in how tidy it is.

If you have good soldering skills, then look into the Mogami 2319 and some SquarePlug SPS4 (on the GCX Side) and Squareplug SP400 on the pedals side and you'll be set on the wiring front.

Use the sticky zip tie holder like these ones to hold down the zip ties.. You can zip tie both the power and audio cables together:

3M Dual lock to hold the pedals and power supply down.. I use the same material to hold down a Voodoo Labs GCP to my pedal board, so you can imagine how strong the stuff is.

For cable routing and length, always leave enough so you can fully pull out the sliding shelf when the pedals are connected to the GCX.

I haven't seen these before. Thanks! I have three 12' cables of Canare GS-6 sitting used and a soldering iron.

Canare GS-6 is a good cable. I had my rig wired up with it from start to finish years ago, however I had noticed a loss of gain with it (noticed the increase after I switched to Mogami 2524 and Mogami 2319 cables). Possibly due to its capacitance. so if you have any long lengths anything over 15' or so in a single run, make sure you use a buffer .

For the SquarePlugs, the 2 models I posted above will fit the Mogami 2319 cable. So make sure you look at the proper model to fit the diameter of the GS-6.

Check out the 3 monkey solderless cables, they are supposed to be really good but I have my reservations but Ossie Ahsen seems like a standup guy.

That being said I tried solderless cables before I can't remember what brand they don't have the longevity of soldered cables so I went back to my mogami 2524 soldered cables making my own, they never let me down.

I had inquired on this forum about solderless cables and a large % of people talked me against it for durability and longevity as well. Been buying the 2524 in bulk in the lengths I need and making my own cable. Highly worth it.

I used to buy Mogami and Canare cable. Good stuff for sure. I recently started buy the Redco branded and have been just as satisfied. Save a few bucks. Oh, and racking the pedals is such a cleaner and easier setup with the GCX and GC .

I used Mogami 2319 and the SP400 plugs on this EVH mini board I put together. The square plugs are really easy to solder.
