Hey all, scored a nice PRS 1957/2008 a while ago. Here are some pics.

All stock and in mint condition. Peruvian mahogany neck, dalbergia rosewood fingerboard, mahogany body, paua bird outlines. The quilt is a ten top that would probably be in the artist or even wood library category IMHO, though it is classified as a 10 top. This is one of the first guitars to feature the coveted 57/08 pickups from PRS. There were only 250 made in this limited run of McCarthys, and this is #2 of 250. It comes with an extra backplate signed by Paul Reed Smith and the case is also unique in that it features the model number that is stencilled on.

Now my dilemma:

Wondering if I should trade for this Aristides. The thing is, I figure I could get an Aristides made exactly like this instrument and no problem. The PRS, I'm not sure. It's really a gorgeous instrument.

Anyone have experience with both brands and some advice? I'd ideally like both, but can only keep one.

Aristides with Floyd is awesome! I had one and it was a superb guitar. Someone offered me a trade I could not refuse but wish I did. It played effortlessly and sounded epic!!

but, PRS also makes amazing guitars I have had a couple PRS that rank among the best guitars I have ever owned or played. When you get a really good PRS, watch out, because they absolutely kill!!

tough choice. I would trade based on the PRS’s playability and tone. I am sure the Aristides wait time is pretty long. You just have to decide on the quality of the PRS. All PRS are great, at least in my experience they have all been great, but then once in a while one is just a killer. Tone for days and effortless playability. If it’s one of those, keep it and order an Aristides.

The PRS looks nice and from what you wrote up looks like it is a pretty rare one that you likely won’t be able to obtain again - but in your post, unless I’m completely blind, you didn’t mention if you like how it feels, sounds, or if it is comfortable for you to play, just how it is rare and looks amazing (which it certainly does). A great playing / sounding PRS that works for you, especially that looks nice and is already rare is probably going to be a keeper imo

I’ve noticed that the folks that buy Aristides have a tendency to always be flipping ones they have to do another order or trade into a different one - there are always nicely spec’d ones up for grabs and from what I’ve experienced they are pretty consistent in tone. They’re awesome guitars but pretty readily available on the internet

I’d say if you like how the PRS plays and it sounds great, keep it

Pretty easy decision.
Whammy or set bridge? Pick one.

I'm not too fussy and use either when the situation calls for it. I just figured that I should probably play the guitar in before deciding on a spur of the moment trade or sale.

Ya, I'm the same. I have 2 fixed and 2 floating. I was kinda joking.
You real comfortable without top fret markers? I'm cool if there's something
at the 12th like on this one.

Two of my guitars actually have no top fret markets, so I got used to it. You can always look at the side dots if you lose your way!

I didn't even try no markers until I'd been playing about 30 years! But ya, once you're use to it it's nothing.
Same with fanned frets.

Fanned frets aren't even a concern, I found. Just fret like normal. The no marker thing was a bit difficult to get over, but once you get acclimatised, you don't miss them.

I’d keep the PRS. It’s 13 years old and will hold its value. The Aristides probably will hold its value, but maybe not. The PRS is a sure thing imho. It seems more rare too.
That’s all outside of knowing how each feels and plays, but based on the info here, that’d be my recommendation.

That PRS is absolutely stunning. It is also a pretty rare bird with that quilt top. If you like it and it sounds great, then stick with it and just enjoy.

I’ve never heard of Aristides before, but it looks pretty cool. The finish kind of reminds me of the Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid in ultraviolet with some black thrown in. Not sure about the scooped areas on either side of the strings though.

keep the PRS. Aristides makes nice guitars but you can and will find a bunch of that model with that finish.

Thats the only PRS like that ive ever seen in my life.

Beautiful!!

Was searching for PRS threads rather than starting another. Sorry for the necro-thread-bump.

Landed on your old thread. Speaking of stop tails pieces.........(I love tele's and hard tail strats too) I hadn't snagged a PRS of any kind in a long time. I've only ever had 4 in 30yrs. I was down to 1. An old PRS Experience 2002 CU 24;

Snagged this locally couple days ago. PRS "Pauls Guitar". Hang tag indicates mfr'd in 2022. Plays, well. Can get HB & SC tones out of it.

Been so long since a new PRS, wasn't sure what to expect. Really digging it so far;
