The above unit is an old Mesa Boogie Quad (which is supposed to be a Mark 2C or 2C+ on one channel and a Mark III on the other channel). I got it without the rack ears and am trying very hard to source a pair, so if you happen to know a source who can fabricate or sell a readymade one, please give me a shout out.

The lower unit is a Mesa Boogie 2:100 Rectifier Stereo. I usually have it paired exclusively with the Quad, since my other amps have power sections and I prefer to amplify my Axe FX with a Fryette PS-2. I hardly use it though, it just sits there in the rack. Probably a good thing though, the whole rack box would probably catch fire if I used it in there.

Not that I haven't. Here is the Quad in 2C+ mode (as I like to think of it) through the 2:100.




I guess you must have more experience with these things, @JackBootedThug. Any clue on whether the Quad's first channel is a Mark 2C or a 2C+? I'm leaning towards a 2C+, based on my limited research.

no experience but I have always wanted one. I'm a mesa fanboy. I tried a recto recording pre once and liked it. That's the only mesa rack stuff I've tried. The only rack gear that I had consisted of a line 6 pod pro, bbe sonic maximizer, rocktron something effects unit and a mesa 20/20.....split signal to two 4x12's. And a nady wireless unit. Loud as fuck and sounded surprisingly good. I only used the twin preset for cleans and treadplate for the chugs. I do own an art sgx2000 with the bigfoot foot controller. It's actually awesome for the 80's stuff....

I was a Boss GT8 fan around that time period, it was literally my only piece of tone shaping equipment. Always felt bad when my clips didn’t measure up to the stuff being put up on the Line 6 forums, it was clear which tech won at that time period, though I tried to convince myself the GT8 was a good buy. Nowadays, I just think if I had bypassed the cab section and gone into IRs or used a power amp into a real cab, I could have got better tones

I’ve had very limited experience with Mesa Boogies unfortunately. I’ve only ever owned a Triple Rectifier Solo, which I sold because it was too loud, and two Mark V:25 heads, which couldn’t keep up with my 100-watt heads, though they had good tone. When the Quad with the Rectifier Stereo turned up near me, I sort of just jumped on it sight unseen. It’s got tonnes of tone and character, and pairs really well with my Axe FXIII for a complete (or a simplified) rack solution.

Truth be told, I missed all the good years when stuff like refrigerators of gear and super loud amps were in vogue. The only reason I ever got into amps was because I got bored of my Kemper and traded for one of those Mark Vs and an EVH 5153.

Didn’t look back after that for the longest time, in six years I had acquired a Soldano Avenger, a VHT Sig:X, two Engls, two Archons, a Victory Kraken, a Marshall JVM410H, a Diezel VH4, and those Mesas. Pales in comparison to some collection, but it was my veritable mountain of amps.

But then one day I had a good hard look at my music room; realised that I wasn’t some superhuman musician, and that my stuff was maybe getting turned on a few times a year. Too busy with work and I had/have a social life. Definitely not worth hoarding gear for the end times.

Down to about five amps now and I’m looking to offload a couple more. Then my life will truly be kaput hyok hyok
