No Quarter

Nope. Heartbreaker.

Did you know that No Quarter on the record is everything slowed down a half step?
You can really hear it with Plant's voice and Bonham's cymbals. Think Page's solo
was done afterwards over the slowed down track.

Also the song almost made it on LZ IV but the band smartly put it on the shelf to
re-visit later.

Cool how Plant had his vocal melody before he had the lyrics.

Robert Plant was not who Jimmy Page originally wanted to front the band. His first pick was the incomparable Terry Reid. What could have been, we will never know. If Terry Reid isn't part of your collection, it is grossly incomplete.

The next time someone accuses The Black Crows of being original, point them to Terry Reid.

A great riff will always be a great riff. They're ingrained in the DNA.

$5 if you can name the song.

Dum.. Dum.. Dum.. da da Dum....
da da da da Dum.. Dum.. da da Dum....
What is "The Ballad of Donnie B?" Couldn't help myself.

Terry Reid turned-down an offer to front Deep Purple.

Damn straight. The Small Faces too.

Page did pursue Reid until Reid's management sent a guy to ask Jimmy how he'd like playing guitar with 10 broken fingers. :D
100% true story.

So like you said, if not for that no Plant. And if no Plant then no Bonham, since he was only introduced to Jimmy via Robert.

It was a guess...I just have a thing for NQ being so heavy and I just have a thing for fifths.

Nope donnie Reid introduced both to Page after turning down the offer.

Yes and no. Reid did mention Hobbstweedle which featured Plant, but Bonham wasn't in that group.

He and Plant had played together in Crawling King Snakes, which was earlier.
Plant brought up Bonham to both Jimmy and Peter Grant after accepting the job.

Bonham almost didn't accept the offer cause the money wasn't enough.
He agreed after they also offered him the paying job of being band's van
driver for the upcoming tour of Europe billed as The New Yardbirds.

That’s debatable but not dismissible either. The fact remains JPJ singularly wrote what is a very strong contender for the most badass and greatest riff of all time. The main riff to Black Dog. That riff is memorable, intricate, nasty, grooving, swinging, tricky, catchy, heavy yet still contains trace elements of blues and funk and just never gets old. What can’t that riff do?
Spot on Gary.
For me, the baseline in the pre-chorus in
The Song Remains The Same..???
That's some unbelievable shit right there.
Like, f**k man, can he make Bonzo's job any easier?
Also Kashmir live...holy hell man..that CRAZY
B-3 overdriven sound against the stomp groove..
Damn..like the hands of a wizard blasting the groove with a gnarly curse...
I hope you're good Gary, back to the motherfuck*ng groove with some Jonesy' for me!

To me it is all The Rain Song off houses holy.
Such a powerful jam. One of my favorite songs ever any band! ?

Quote by uber-producer Rick Rubin:

"I don't even know what kind of music this is. It defies classification. There's such tasteful, beautiful detail in the guitar, and a triumphant feel when the drums come in — it's sad and moody and strong, all at the same time. I could listen to this song all day. That would be a good day."

Lol, I absolutely knew you would see and like my comments praising JPJ. For real!:m17:

Zep is great, no doubt but I always liked Sabbath a little more. Maybe it can be summed up in me liking Iommi more than Page. I do prefer Plant to Ozzy vocally. Maybe I am dreaming of Black Zeppelin?

Zep really is great, love ‘em. I mean they’re no Greta Van Fleet or anything but they’re alright…

…just joking fellas, breath, take a joke.

There are a lot of individual tunes that have a zeppelin vibe, how many blatant Zep band knockoffs are there?
Greta Van Fleet
Kingdom Come
Whitesnake??
Black Crowes??
Others?

I’m drawing a blank but I know there’s more

Holy cow. That’s EXACTLY WHAT I feel when I listen to this song!! I listen in the shower after hard day work. Hits me all over the emotion. ?

Super moving song. I can play music. But god damn this song is out my league.
