Everyone should be encouraged to make their own IR's..
Technology is awesome BUT it comes with a price. It is making all of us sound identical and uniform. As I mentioned in another thread, I feel like these differences in production and gear used are what went a long way in making music sound more dynamic back in the 80's and 90's. Since then it has all summarized into one type of sound. Listening to college radio and independent artists who write crappy music sometimes is more interesting to me because of the production aspect. Each song sounds different where as more modern music sounds very similar. I wonder if modern methods are sort of impacting creativity to be honest.
That is 100% my reason for the "sneap distaste." For example, if you listen to metal on satellite radio, you can tell ALMOST EVERY BAND uses the same sort of IR/chain. Every god damn band has the same Andy sneap influenced 5150/v30/808/57 tone, and after a decade of it, it's exhausting to listen to.
IRs are a powerful tool, but especially in heavy stuff, so many people are using the same IRs with the same amp models, that modern bands sound completely banal and bland.
Which is the ultimate irony of "can you tell the difference" videos - I can't tell the difference between any of the 6505 sounds on Liquid Metal, let alone in a YouTube video.
