Thinking about dumping most of my gear

I honestly believe you. I hear certain things in that album that remind of a mark III, now, after ive heard you say it.

That being said, I don't really love that tone, and I don't like marks all that much lol. Someday I might get a SYN1 and a 2CP module or a myasnikov preamp, if I absolutely have to have a mark tone for something.

Like christian grey, my tastes are.......unconventional.

Even so, i think youre right, and it was a mark III, so eventually prices on these are going to climb.
Yeah I’m not into the tone of mark series amps either, I just don’t dig the solo tones of them but find their rhythm tones insane with a bit of EQ.

Same, I totally agree. The marks totally have a sound, and i see desiring that sound as logical. It's just that I don't like the honkyness of the lead tones, and I honestly have other preferences in rhythm sounds. I just skew marshall-style.

I can STILL see how someone would want one, and the prices have been increasing at an UNREAL rate, for all of them. So I think it would be unwise of OP to get rid of his. Especially with the Gibson purchase, i dont care what anyone says, theres a LOT of uncertainty about the brand.

Definitely hold on to the III. If you are moving it I'd bump your price up a lot.
No way the prices will ever go low again between supply and the Gibson sale.

Been saying I was going to sell mine for going on a year now. :ROFLMAO:

Im kinda board with the rev G ive had about 10 of them. What i really want is a chrome chassis rev F. Im even willing to pay a good amount for one just like the $3500 people are trying to get for them now a days.
Not trying, I got $3600 for mine.

...And I agree, keep the MkIII & your best guitar at the very least. Have Mike B. service your MkIII now before he retires & you have a real asset.

Yup!!! I got rid of my Mark IV back in 2012 and kick myself everyday.
same here I got rid of my Mark IV"B" in 2016 and wish I had never sold it. keep the III, it will only go up in value and it's a kick ass head
I sold a Mark III red stripe back in 2012 for $700 :(

What are Mark III’s going for? I have a super clean red stripe Simul Class with factory hardwood head shell. I bought it from original owner a few years back. I even have the factory manuals and paperwork that it came with. I wonder what it would be worth?

Out of curiosity, what makes the rev g worth hanging onto?
Because the Recto’s have a unique sound, a growl like no other, even if post Rev f, still nice amps and may go up or probably at least maintain value

I would keep the mark iii over it if I could only choose one, but those would be the 2 I’d consider hanging on to. I don’t see the other stuff as being as special, but that’s just me I guess

At the moment, I'd guess $2500-3K for that amp.

Wow!

I knew Mesa's have been going up but damn...
Mesas are going for stupid expensive right now. A Dual Rectifier Road King II I was watching on Reverb went for 3.3K today. Like what? Shocking with the leaps modeling (and Neural DSP plugins) have made this year. Like Quad Cortex and the like.

I was thinking $2800-$3200 too, so we are in the same ballpark.
If he sent it to Mike B for service & III+ mod I'd say $3K+ easy right now. But then, he'd be a fool to sell it.

Once Mike retires I predict there will be a split in price tiers between amps he's recently serviced / modded & ones he has not.

Have to agree with the comments to hang onto the Mark III. I had a Mark IV and III a few years backs, kept the III. Unless you seriously overpaid for it, which I doubt considering how low you could get them for not too long ago.

really? Jesus. I had two of them back in the day i think i paid around 1000 for each of them and sold them for 13-1400. is mike b the due at mesa? i should do that i bought the amp from this wild 80s metal dude who claimed he was the second owner based on his story and the story of the previous owner i know its never seen the inside of a shop lol.

I have a quad cortex and a kemper its one of the reasons I'm considering letting all my real gear go. The quad cortex rules its got about 90% of the vibe of a real amp and since i don't play live anymore its good enough.
